Iphone 3GS Compatibility in G37X
Just bought a new G37X and have a first generation iphone which works well. Thinking of getting a 3Gs iphone But have heard that sound quality is poor with an echo. Checked infiniti web site and states 3GS iphone is being tested. Does any one have and use a 3GS iphone without problem? I know you cannot transfer the address book but am only concerned abpout voice quality and reception.

-Car loses connection with iPhone intermittantly then reconnects moments later.
-Caller ID seldom works
-Outgoing calls not always play through speakers
-Voice quality is poor, but no worse than the blackberry this phone replaced.

I've had the iphone 3GS now for about 1 month and so far its been fine. No lose of connection yet and the voice quality seems fine. My old phone was a blackberry and everything seems consistent with both.

ugh! so you can view your entire addressbook via the Navi screen? how do you place calls? do you have to save each number to the Infiniti hard drive?
<thinking of getting a G37 vert and i have iPhone 3GS>

I had to manually enter the phonebook thru setup. It was a pain to do, but I managed to get the important numbers programmed in. My 3GS does the intermittent lose Bluetooth signal, tries for like 5 minutes and then the phone reboots and immediately reconnects to the Bluetooth. Very annoying indeed.

I have had no problems with the BlueTooth so far, it is as good or better than the BB it replaced (I see a trend here).
Anyway, I searched for this thread because I am interested in the iTunes part of the iPhone. Can the iPhone be used like an iPod in the G37 via the cable that comes with the car? I get an error, charging is not supported and no music. Has anyone has had any success with this?

I'm guessing the updated 2008 and new 2009 nav units use the same brain, so here are my thoughts on the system (I have the revised 2008 version):
1. Call quality is good. Sounds better than most ones I've used on other brands.
2. Voice commands have been limited (IMO they suck, but still acceptable).
3. Connection is good. Screen shows battery level and signal strength.
4. As far as Caller ID... there's no problem with it. The guy that has problems with it hasn't realized caller id does not show up if the car is in motion... why? I don't know... it just does... I usually have the iPhone sitting in the cupholder, so it's easy to see who is calling without glancing at the nav screen and trying to find the small font caller ID name anyway.
5. Disconnection/Reconnection problems with the iphone are generally due to your iPhone either resetting the bluetooth stack/module, or some internal problem with the phone. Like it was said before, it reconnects moments later. Just so you know, I've never had that happen while on a call though!
6. As for the phonebook... it blows. It does not transfer the contacts automatically, but that's the iphone's fault, as it does not support OBEX. Additionally, you can't transfer the contacts with another phone and then switch to the iphone, because the phonebook is linked to each particular phone... which brings me to my next problem... getting a replacement phone and/or upgraded iphone. You have to start the whole thing all over again. So far in 2+ years I've only programmed my top 5 most called numbers, so it's not that big of a deal, but still annoying nonetheless.
7. Last iphone update allows you to now play your voicemails though the car speakers.
If I think of anything else, I'll add it below... overall though, there are no huge issues you'll have. Minor annoyances at best...
Enjoy your car!

Yes, same thing in my 335i. No problems at all...the address book is just there as soon as the iphone syncs.

Iphone 3gs on g37 convertible. The phonebook problem is well known but is a one-time issue that is already in the past for me. Call quality seems fine to me - as good as in my wife's BMW X3 for example. Bluetooth sometimes pops a quick disconnected message but then reconnects immediately - this has never happened in a call mind you.
