Start Your Car from your iPhone: There's an app for that!

Remote starters are always a popular holiday gift in Northern climes, so particularly lazy shoppers will be heartened to learn one can be downloaded on iTunes. The Viper SmartStart from Directed Electronics is an iPhone-compatible remote starter capable of warming up or cooling down a car. Even if you’re not a fan of letting your car idle in a parking lot, Viper says the SmartStart could come in handy for remotely locking or unlocking the doors, popping the trunk or even sounding the car alarm.
Best of all, instead of pointing a squared-off keyfob at a car that’s parked a mere 30 feet away, you can start your car from anywhere provided there’s a cell phone signal.

“Our customers have consistently told us that the two most important features in a remote starter are range and user interface,” Directed Electronics president Kevin Duffy said in a statement. “We developed the Viper SmartStart in response. Range is virtually unlimited, and iPhone owners can use the elegant touch-screen interface they already carry in their pocket.”
The SmartStart can either be installed separately for $499 or mated to an existing remote starter for $299. There’s also an annual service charge, which tacks on an additional $29.99 a year. The system is also compatible with the iPod Touch, but its range is limited to within existing WiFi networks.

i doubt they have a remote start on our vehicle since we have the chip in our key, unless we leave the keys in our car, and have it enable the brakes...which is not safe...someone research on this, plus i read here about remote start and it cost $1000...

gen78, you DO realize how this works don't you?? You don't just BUY the app willie nillie and start your car. You've got to have the alarm installed in your car first.

it's a viper alarm system with a cellphone like service, free for the 1st year then like 30 bucks a year or so? But ya, gotta find a way to get around the hold the brake to push start and of course have to leave your key or get a transponder chip that's in the key fob and have that in the car. And needs to bypass it so it doesn't think it's a keyfob so people can't unlock your door and start your car, a lot more to it then putting it on a honda.

i got a quote from my installer today. $1079 for the remote started to work with my 09 FX50S or G37s. installed lifetime warrenty and free transfer to a new car if i sell.

Hey Stephen,

In regards to getting remote starters installed in your 09 g37s and 09fx50s a top of the like two way remote starter installed with your push button start, locks, factory security, and chipped keys all tied in would cost $1079 for each vehicle. A life time guarentee for both your vehicle and the labour are included. The unit model is a titan ts151a rated at 4000 ft range. For any other questions feel free to reply to this email or call in at any time.

Thanks!

Thank you for you prompt responce. I am also wondering if this will work with the new cellphone application to start the car via text? As well what are you wait times for install and how long for the install. I am out of the country and returning the end of this month. I will be into see you about an appointment to get this installed.

Hey Stephen,

We are currently booking about 10 days out, and can add the tms100 module for text start to the systems at the same time. for a tms100 the installed price is $420 while installed a remote starter.

Thanks!

and his latest reply

Hey for the tms100 you end up having a seperate phone number that you send the text codes to, the phone number is provided through rogers wireless so you get great coverage all across north america. The charge is on average about 10 per month.

Thanks!
