If your iPod sleeps with ignition off... Which iPod model do you have?
LOTS of posts about iPods not shuting down with ignition off. But no list of iPod models that will. For those members that are looking to buy a new iPod, I'd bet that info would be useful. I'd sure like to know.
I have a 2009 G, the iPod Classic gen 5 does shut down... once in a while.
Anyone have an iPod, Nano... etc. that consitantly shuts down after ignition is turned off? Or do you have a technique that assures a possitive off for the iPod without manually disconecting it?
Here is a link to identify iPod models Identifying iPod models
Thanks in advance

I've got an iPod (80GB and older, maybe gen2, I think) and I leave it connected to the G 100% of the time via the iPod cable that came with the car and it always turns off automatically. Not right when the car turns off, but a minute or so later.
I've never had any problems with it

^ Thank you hispeed-lowdrag. There is hope.
That would be a 80 gig iPod Classic? The big one with a screen that can do video?
I think the 80 gig uses USB to charge, do you have an adaptor on your factory iPod cable? (Scosche passPORT)

yep, that's the one! I know it doesn't turn off automatically with the car, but I also know that every time I get in my car, it has turned off (and NOT because the battery is dead).
I would assume that every iPod did the same thing, but for some reason people seem to be convinced that other iPods won't do that. Hope this helps!!

2nd gen ipod touch 32gb. Does not shut down nor does it charge. Ive never really had any issues since the battery lasts so long, except when i detach it and use the apps, then it drains quickly.

Speedracer, do you have an adaptor on the factory cable for USB charging? Does your Nav have the "full voice command" set? I'm thinking maybe the Infiniti voice command set modification has something to do with the iPods staying on after the car is off?

Problem solved! Sorta... Now I can get the 5th gen iPod Classic to shut down every time... but on accessory only... as long as I don't start the engine.
It's got to be an issue with the software in some iPods vs. the Nav software? Maybe different iPod models have different software issues? If you have an iPod that correctly shuts down every time, please post or PM the model. I've got some time on my hands and hope to post a solution for the forum.

I bought two new nanos (4th gen) when I bought my 2 G's. Both sleep when not in use. The sleep setting is on the iPod and not on the Infiniti system. Maybe you should sync the unit and get the latest software from Apple. I also use the scoobie connector on both.

^Thank you Mike P.
The Nanos seem to be compatible based on replies and research. Earlier than maybe USB only charging iPods there isn't a switchable sleep setting, but, for newer iPods, the sleep mode setting could be it.
The 5th gen iPod Classic doesn't have a sleep setting, but, it will charge via USB or Firewire. So I've tested it with and without the Scosche passport and most current software.
-A man, as he repeatedly falls trying to climb a wall, refuses to walk around it. He says "It ain't going to win!" When in fact, it could be, the way to win is to walk around the wall.

I have a 16gb itouch. I had to get the scoche adapter but it charges and sleeps just fine. I have only taken it out of my car once in 6 months and it is perfectly fine.
My G37 is not a daily either, I only drive it once every week or two.
