Escort Radar Detectors: 8500 and 8500x50 for 149 and 199

I was on radardetector.net trying to learn a little bit more about the new Escort 9500i and to see if there were any platform or sensitivity differences between that and the 8500's when I came upon a thread for refurbished 8500 and 8500x50s.

http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...0-refurbs.html

Escort has a trade in program where you can trade in your older detector and get a credit towards the purchase of the new 9500is. Apparently, many people have been using that program and Escort has had a bunch of 8500 and 8500x50s returned, which are fantastic radar detectors. Escort has tested them, upgraded the software on them, and is selling them with a warranty through their eBay store.

8500's are 149 shipped
8500x50's are 199 shipped (red)
8500x50's are 229 shipped (blue)

These are great prices on very VERY good radar detectors. Check out the guys of Lidar tests on these detectors and note that their competitors cost double the price.

According to the radardetector.net forums, the main difference between the 8500 and 8500x50s is sensitivity vs. reliability in the S7 vs. M4 platform. Most posters seem to agree that the S7 platform is more sensitive, but the M4 platform is more reliable.

I believe the new 9500i Escort's are still on the same M4 platform that the 8500x50s are on so the main differences that the 9500i's offer vs. the 8500x50s are features and according to the Guys of Lidar tests, slightly increases sensitivity...... of course with a 499 pricetag.

I figured I would post it here in case anyone is in the market for a radar detector but didnt want to spend 500 bucks.

Nice post. I should have post this awhile ago. I got the 8500 and its great. I got it on ebay directly from escort as a referb. The detector came sealed in an original box with all OEM parts. The detector looked brand new.

This thing has saved me countless times.

So is it worth it to trade the x50 to 9500is? How much credit are we talking about?

https://www.escortradar.com/store/Es...-Trade-In.html

From reading it, you get an 80 credit for the x50. You'd be better off selling it here in the forums or putting it up on eBay.
