Stealth Cord or Direct Wire Escort 8500 X50?

I just got an Escort 8500 X50 and have it mounted just to the right of my rear view mirror. I want to run a power wire for it so I don't have the cord hanging down to the lighter socket but don't know whether I should get the stealth cord right into my powered rear view mirror or the direct wire from Escort that goes into my fuse box and provides the small display unit with the power/alert lights and a mute button.

How hard is it to install the direct wire cord? Would it be hard for me to run the cable (cleanly) to my radar unit? Are there installation instructions online anywhere that I could look at?

Thanks!

Me too. I have mine mounted with suction cups to the upper left of my mirror using a 12 inch stealth cord. It's a lot more unobtrusive there than hanging off of the mirror post below the mirror.

Invisicord and Stealth cord look the same to me, so I guess it comes down to the Escort direct wire, as that comes with the accessory dongle. I'd like the dongle with the alert light and mute button, but how hard is it to install? The Stealth cord is easy as could be, while the direct wire looks difficult...but I have no idea.

i have the invisicord. so much easier than running a direct wire to the fuse box.

you really dont need the alert thing and mute button. you got it right on the radar.

I have the escort direct wire setup with the mute button/alert LED mounted on top of my steering wheel column. Wiring was simple, just tape into 12v and groud.

Thank you for the kind words! If you have any questions on this, please PM or email me. The Invisicord was the original, then a nice gentleman in CA decided to copy the idea, so now you have the stealthy cord. They are basically the same, but I can only stand behind my product and customer service for Invisicord, for what it is worth. Again, any questions, please ask me!

+1 for the Invisicord, I was one of the first ones to test them out for the G back on Driver when I had my 35coupe in 05. Been using them ever since, worked fine with the 37! Wonder if Mike is making his mounts still....

P.S. be sure to specify the thin connectors made for the G.

Hi TomCatm,

You don't have to specify this any longer, just go through the shop and choose Nissan/Infiniti, and it will guide you to the purchase of the micro version of the Invisicord. Thanks for your past business!

Do these cords mean you have to mount up high close to the rearview mirror though? Because I like my radar mounted at the lower middle close to the center speaker.
