Anyone ever tried a bazooka tube?

I know most of you guys are going to flame me for this, but has anyone installed a bazooka tube in their G?

Here's my dilemma... The premium Bose system meets and exceeds my needs 95% of the time. When I'm commuting to/from work, it's more than enough sound for me. Even during the winter months, when my windows are always up and the sunroof is always closed, very rarely do I wish I had more low-end bass.

HOWEVER, when I'm cruising around with the windows down and the sunroof open, and I put on some hip-hop and turn up the volume, the low-end bass just drops out of the system. At anything over half-volume, the highs just overpower the lows and it sounds terrible.

I'm an avid golfer, and I already have to take my driver out of golf bag just to fit it into my trunk, so there's no way I can do a 4080. I also take roadtrips almost every weekend, so I need my trunk space for a suitcase and luggage, so a Zenclosure won't work. The only option I have, space-wise, is a bazooka tube.

So what's the scoop on these? Do they work? Will they provide more bass than the Bose premium system already does? Are they easy to install? Any feedback is appreciated.

Research Infinity BassLink... I know some of the G35 guys use those.

whats up andrew? if youre looking for just a lil bit more low end then the enclosure will serve its purpose well for you. i have never personally liked them because im a pretty big bass nut. as you want it to do, it will save you a lil bit of room. however depending on how much room your trying to save, 1 or 2 shallow mount subs will also do you well. build a small custom enclosure towards the rear of your trunk and they take minimum air space. if you want to get very technical and into it, removing your spare tire is always an option too. i have built numerous fiberglass "tub" enclosures in spare tire wells with a false floor to mount the sub. that way will allow you to save all space in your trunk and get the bass ya want. that is unfortunately the most expensive route. let me know if ya have any questions via PM. been in the audio industry for a while now. hope this helps some

Had a 10" bass tube lying around and installed it into the G... hmm it did bump up the bass alot, but known thing about bass tubes is that the subs dont last as long... But it served its purpose...

The Infinity Basslink is a great preamped sub ! had good experiences with these... might be another option, but just a heads up, stay far away from MTX Thunderlink it sounds like $h*t ! IMO ...

I might look into the Infinity BassLink... Thanks guys!

Now lets say you're someone who has absolutely no experience with car audio (and I mean none whatsoever). How much would I be looking at to have someone install this in my G? Or how difficult would it be to walk myself through the installation?

It depends what the local car audio shops charge... if its a flat rate or per hour... here on Guam, one car audio shop charges a flat rate or $50-100, and the other charges $35 an hour... im pretty sure where you buy the Basslink from, they would give you an install price...

As far as wiring it up yourself...
Go to this DIY Link: https://www.myg37.com/forums/d-i-y-i...stall-diy.html

Take the wires coming from the Bose factory amp and connect them using the Hi-Level in plugs or connectors that come with the Basslink. And of course the Remote Turn-On from the Bose factory amp to the Remote Turn-On on the Basslink.

As far as power wire goes... Follow Step 11 "Now for the hard part. The ECU wire."

On this Link: http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=349613

Run the power line this way and just pop the side panels (along the door sill) out and tuck the power wire along the sides of the rear seats towards the trunk and connect your power to the (+) on the Basslink.

The Ground Wire (-) is easy just find a nut/ bolt close by to where you mounted the Basslink and unscrew and lightly sand down the area to bare metal and re-screw the nut/bolt back in with the ground wire and now connect to the (-) on the Basslink.

I hope this helps and sorry to flood your thread, maybe others can benefit off of this, or if i get around to it, i could do a DIY thread. Other than that, dont forget to fuse your power line at the battery, and good luck !

well probably the scariest thing for first time installers in taking apart the car. most people are afraid of breaking panels, clips, or missing screws, etc. however im sure there tons of DYIs of showing how to take apart the G here on the forum. all aftermarket sub/amp combos need are power, ground, remote, and RCA. you will need to purchase a hi-lo adapter which is an interface that taps into speaker leads and outputs to RCA signal (for amp). once that is installed. run and RCA from the interface to your amplifier. Next you will need 12v from your Battery ( make sure you install the appropriate fuse as well on your power wire). After that you can run your remote lead which is you amp turn on lead. This is a wire you can connect to an accessory or ignition in the vehicle (this should also be fused). lastly ground on the vehicle where there is no paint or scrap the paint away for a true ground. make sure you run all you wires cleanly (usually zip tie with existing wire harnesses or wires in vehicle). then enjoy!

Depending on what your looking for, the 4080 enclosures seem decent, and I have yet to see a poor review. They also look pretty clean compared to the normal box. Although I dont know if they take up the same area that your clubs use.

I have a basslink lying around that I'm fixing to get installed in the trunk. (plain vanilla journey, no bose) I'll post back after it's done and tell you how it sounds. I'm missing the wiring harness for the speaker-level ins, so hopefully the install shop can deal with that easily enough as I think they'll have to pull the signal from the rear door speakers.

I just installed a Fusion 10" self powered bass tube. Took about 2 hrs start to finish. Kit came with EVERYTHING you need to do the install and even has the remote bass control included. Open the box and install the tube. Easy as it gets and retail it something like $350. I got the VERY special dealer/wholesale cost since it was the first the shop had ordered. I don't want huge bass and it has plenty of thump to supplement the factory Bose.

Followed the DIY sub install thread (see above NAM post) and it was a breeze. FYI in my case the sub required a 12V remote and I had enough cable to pull form the Fuse panel instead of from the Bose amp.

No, its not flashy and won't impress an audiophile but it works good enough for JOhn Public who needs a little extra oompff.

I have a basslink installed in my 09 Journey, no Bose. Sounds great. It Is, in fact, far more bass than the stock / base stereo can handle. It takes rca or line level, has a phase shifter, and a variet of sound shapin tools and controls. Has a very heavy duty amp plus a passive radiator. It is first gen basslink, and it has been in three cars now - has taken a beating for like 6 years and is still going strong. Extremely durable and sounds great. Turns the base stereo into something worthwhile IMO in a big way. I love it.
