I got the escort passport 9500ix after I got my first ticket (would have saved me because the cop had the radar on the whole time from a mile away). It has GPS built in and red light cam database. It will automatically remember false alarms and ignore them after a few trips through the same spot. Can be had for $400 to $500. Saved me a few times.

Yeah, I got escort 9500i too. It works very well with the regular police radars but if you hear "laser alert", I would suggest to look at the speedometer and estimate your fine amount. I would say Valentine 1 is the best out there but just looks like an antique souvenir on the windshield of an expensive car .
Other than that the best protection would be a laser jamer and laser detector combination. Here in Maryland more and more clowns started using lasers which sucks for us.

Valentine1 owner for 11 years and has been 100% worth every penny. I highly recommend it. It's well built, accurate with low false alarms.

Passport Escort 9500i bought mine from my cousin for $400 in red. GPS looks nicer than the Valentine 1 and not bulky etc. GPS and what not. Saved my A@# a alot. Should be your interest to get one. 9500i or the V1. those are the top brands

most highway patrol guys use instant on LIDAR (laser radar) so when you detector goes off you've already been tagged. Even with traditional radar unless the cop is being lazy and just leaving it running non stop a detector isnt going to go off till he tags you and has your speed.

Since you hate cops so much....next time u need one because ur house got broken into, etc., call a crackhead instead lol.

In the mean time. Like said before. Most cops use lidar now and your tagged before you get a chance to slow down. Getting a detector will help, but to avoid getting a ticket, fix the source and don't speed at all.

What was the speed limit anyways?

Here's a novel idea: Drive the speed limit. If you choose to drive way over the speed limit and get caught, take it like a man, pay your ticket, and realize it's not the cop's fault you got busted. Stop whining and hating on the police for doing his job. If you are in the OP's situation where you feel you got a ticket and you weren't speeding (I have one now), learn how to go to court and present your case so that you will prevail.

It's very possible (IMO likely) that having that radar detector is going to do more harm than good.

A little to far homie. If you speed, you are breaking the law, killing another human because of your foolishness is just that, foolish. Remove yourself from earth.

About the "radar" part of your statement. I agree with what you're saying but only when the traffic is really spread out. However, if I'm following a "speeder leader" (as I like to call 'em) about 1/8 mile behind, I will probably get a little bit of radar reflection/alert from the instant on pulse aimed at the car in front of me. If no hills or curves are involved, I will be warned for sure.

About the laser, I hate it, but it would seem (my opinion) that it cannot be used while driving because of the precision with which it must be aimed. I took a 3 hour drive yesterday, saw lots of CHP and most all of them were driving. All of them including the one parked on the side were only using radar. (Cali)

My V1 has detected LIDAR that was pointed at the car about 500 ft in front of me. How do I know? Because I saw the cop car on the side of the road way in advance and as soon as my V1 went off he pulled out behind that car in front of me and pulled him over. FWIW, Laser light scatters and a good detector can detect this light frequency even when the beam is not on your car. Granted that's not always the case and if you're alone on the road and your Laser alert goes off you've been tagged.

Also about the prior Instant On Radar comment, I've picked up this radar many times well in advance of coming upon smokey. Again, a good detector will detect this radar and alert you when he's tagging cars well ahead of you (even around the bend).

Personally I don't have a V1 so I can speed. I use it to keep me aware of my speed just in case I'm passing someone in the wrong spot. I'd rather see the police driving with the rest of us and nailing poor or aggressive drivers than sitting on the side of the road tagging someone doing 10 MPH over the limit, but that's their job.

BTW, if some of you don't like the "ancient" design of the V1 then don't buy it, but it's arguably the best and most accurate detector around. The arrows alone are invaluable. You can add all those other bells and whistles on those pretty units but I will tell you that my V1 will sometimes go off when a cheap unit is stopped next to me due to their poor design and RF leakage. I'll stick to my 11 yr. old V1.

Pretty common for traffic to drive 10mph over the speed limit on our beltway and my regular commute, it's great to know when my 9500ix goes off it's a threat, no possibly dangeous distractions otherwise. There are several X & K ban falses along the way that I'm no longer pestered with. Just the other day I had a Ka band driving with traffic (stealth LEO). Paid for itself many times over already.
