Help! .wma files on Compact Flash not working...
Hope someone can help me out - the dealer was useless.... I've loaded up a 4GB CF card with songs, which are a mix of .mp3 and .wma files. None (as far as I can tell) of my .wma files work - I get the error message about not being able to play them, and then it moves to the next file.
The files work fine on every other device (so the files themselves work);
The bit rate is fine (192) for all of them;
The file names are short, so that's not the issue;
They're not protected;
No tags....
So what gives?! It's driving me nuts! Any suggestions desperately appreciated.
Many Thanks,
Mike

WMA10 the Culprit (I think)!
Well, I may have answered my own question....
A reference in another thread lead me to convert one of the .wma files to mp3, and lo and behold, it suddenly worked.
That suggested that there's something about the .wma format or the mix of .mp3 and .wma files that's causing the problem. Yet, no one on this board has referred to the latter being a problem, which lead me to look at the .wma files carefully.
The converter (dBpoweramp - which is great btw!), allowed me to see all the encoding and other info. - a typical example is:
- Channels: 2 (Stero)
- Sample Rate: 44.1 Khz
- Sample Size 16 bit
- Bit Rate: 192kbps
- Audio Quality: High (Lossy)
- Encoder: Windows Media Audio 10 Professional
- Encoder Settings: 192kbps, 44Khz, 2 channel 16 bit 1-pass CBR
- Contains: CD TOC, Normalization Values, ID Tag [WMA ID Tag]
- Protected: No
Everything's OK.... except for the @!&$^@#$ Encoder! The car manual states under "Supported Versions: WMA7, WMA8, WMA9"
No WMA10!!!
I don't seem to have any unprotected WMA9 files, but I bet that's the issue....
Argghhhh! [That's me bashing the Infiniti programmers who haven't updated the software to support WMA10.]
Anyone else experience this?
