Why is this a problem? Compass tells you where you're pointed - Nav tells you that plus where you are, where you want to go, how to get there, how long it will take, where there's a McD's along the way, etc....
It's like complaining that you lose the 6 CD changer when you get the Music Box system with 9.3 GB Hard drive.
Oops - I hope I didn't open up a whole new can of worms....

i actually thought the compass was useful. sometimes when i drive onto a familiar road from an unplanned route, i look at the compass to confirm that im heading in the right direction. I have nav too and no I don't use it when im driving in my own neighborhood
then u may say how can i not know how to navigate my way.. well it looks the same on both sides of the road and esp on further end of the road where i seldom commute.. the compass really comes in handy as i know which side of town i am, and which direction i need to drive.
it's not a big deal but it helps that its there on the rearview mirror.. i would be pissed if my car didnt come with one.

^+1 I had that on one of my older cars and it got annoying because it was distracting every time I was looking in the mirror to look behind me. I think its well placed ergonomically speaking to just have it in the nav unit where all the other directional stuff is IMO. But to each their own.
