Thumbs up Gvn 53 Installed!

So i Jumped the broom and had the Gvn 53 installed. At first they guy who did the install messed up on the bypass, my brake light stayed on and when ever i drove a little caution sign lit up and the most annoying warning beep replayed an unpleasant soundtrack. well i called the shop he started being a d**k obviously because he didnt want to look like he didnt know what he was doing so his thing was he followed the instructions step by step. Well lets fast forward a little. later that night i was so frustrated that i just went in and re-did everything my self Bypass wise. which now works great.

Now on to the Main event, the Gvn 53 install was successful, its a great system the remote use is fairly easy, the system comes with an extra speaker that you can hide and place in the car which can get pretty loud, so now i have the option to program an adress into the nav then flip back to the radio and the exterior speaker they provided will sound off anytime a new command is given from the nav, so the only thing your missing in this scenario is that your not seeing the map,but your hearing the turn by turn directions. If you rather see the Screen and hear music but have no turn by turn directions you can unplug the red and white rca cables and use your ipod for music. But this eliminates turn by turn voice guidance. This to me is a good nav alternative it cost me 300 bucks for the gvn 53 off ebay and 250 for the install. IMO the install should of been cheaper!

Pics should give an idea of how the system works similar to the portable gps models.

Thats All Folks!

Oh nice!!

You didn't get the navi with the car? Do you have touchscreen? that would make it a very good setup. Looks good either way, nice job!

unfortunately its not touch screen, and no it doesn't work with the factory controls you have to use the remote to work it but IMO its easier than the factory controls or using a touch screen less errors lol.

Great job and that is what I have been looking for. Which shop installed it for you ? I would think $250 is a fair price if they installed it sucessfully. As you mentioned you re-did it by yourself, could you share what you have performed to fix the brake light issue?
Appreciate your information.

well the whole ebrake fix was simple the installer, didnt clip the ebrake wire instead striped it and just ran the ground to the amp fuse (dont know why) so i went in followed the diagram to the tee. which i cant put out in the open pm for the diagram cause its not permitted here. instead i just clipped the wire and from there grounded it out taped the other end up and re assembled it was good to go from there.

if you unplug the right left audi and plug in your ipod, can you use their external speak for the turn by turn?

Also arent there some RCA splitters that can bridge the two connectors?

the splitters i have to try, im going to stop by radio shack and pick some up. the antenna is mounted on top of the dash ill take a pic in a bit and show u and the black box is mounted under the glove box behind the removable panel. Yea i used the same d.i.y from driver sent it to the audio shop only took him 2- 3 hrs to complete and 1 hr he had to wait for a phone call from garmin its a really basic install. you can do the bypass your self. and just take the box to be hooked up. yes u can you the external speaker for turn by turn you just need to mount it in a good place for you to hear it. as long as your not blasting music to the point that your going deaf you should be fine.

Hi,

Where was the garmin gvn 53 yellow and red wires connected to? On the Garmin manual it mentiones connecting the yellow wire to the fuse block and not directly to the battery.

Thanks

does this type of solution void your warranty? I know there is a company navtool that will have a module that can allow you to get these devices connected.

I was under the impression that you would have the ability to use it as a touch screen too... Is that not the case?

I am in canada and have a 09 G37 Journey

Very nice, I had the GVN-53 installed before I upgraded to a CarPC.

I also liked to have music from another source while I was driving in AUX mode, so I had the Garmin speaker velcroed underneath the passenger footwell. It was loud enough to hear, so it was a good temporary solution!
