i have the new cable in an 08 g, dealer guy gave it to me when i mentioned that it would fix the iphone 3g issue, test it, didnt work, but said i could keep it anyways, it's slightly slimmer. maybe its cos i have an 08 and not an 09g? but i really doubt that's the issue, and also i watched that iphone 3.0 thing and i don't recall hearing things about the compatibility getting fixed and as some mentioned, its a hardware issue, not a software issue.

I just bought a 09 and the cable will not charge my ipod touch, second gen. I'm using the passport, and the charge works, but it makes the unit long, so that its hard to store in the compartment between the seats....

FWIW: Griffin Technologies just recently announced the release of their own Firewire-USB charge converter. http://www.griffintechnology.com/pro...-usb-converter

I just ordered one today, but I have no clue how long they'll be backordered for. According to this website, the connections both click into place, so that should fix the major complaint with the Scosche Passport. It also looks significantly smaller than the Scosche, but that's purely guessing from the pictures.

I'll give everyone a review as soon as I get it.

It barely fits... The converter is probably about 1" long, but as you know that console isn't very big. The benefit of the Griffin is that both ends snap into place so it won't come unplugged, and if you put your iPhone diagonally into the console and slightly bend the cable upwards, then fits snuggly into the compartment and you can close the armrest.

However, I have been experimenting with different things, and I found the perfect solution. If you run the cable out of the armrest, the iPhone will fit perfectly into the indentation on the passenger side of the parking brake lever. My rubber iPhone case prevents it from sliding around, and now I can still use it without opening the armrest.

Wow, old thread. Yeah, I've heard some bad things about the passport. One is that it wont stay connected either. That Griffin converter looked nice but it was discontinued for some reason. I suppose it's still available somewhere but likely at a higher price. And the fact that it's discontinued makes me wary of it.
