Help iPod integration question

iPod integration question
I am using a 2nd Gen Nano and the factory cable and everytime I plug my iPod in it comes up on the screen as iPod, but I don't have the ability to see my playlist or scroll through songs. If I press "aux" the screen goes black and I can't control anything. The only time I get it to work is if I unplug/plug over and over until it finally recognizes what is going on and I can play music.
Anybody else experience this or should I just suck it up and buy a new iPod?
- nevermind I'm an idiot - i figured it out.

Basically from what I understand is that if you have CDs in the changer and you have your ipod plugged in through the infiniti cable you don't use the AUX button at all. If you just use the "Disc" button it will switch you between ipod and cds
