As Max said, use a Zenclosure box with (1) 10" sub offset. The offset will allow you to mount an amp onto the front of the box next to the sub.

Now we're talking!! How inexpensively could I do that? And how much effort went into that install? Assume that I know nothing about car audio...

assuming you can procure the box from our asian friend, you could purchase an amplifier, a subwoofer, and hookup wiring and be done.

If you're looking for inexpensive equipment, I'll just give the below as an example. This is by no means a top-of-the-line setup, but would certainly fill the lack of bass that you're experiencing.

Amplifier
JL Audio 250/1v2 This delivers 250Watts from 1.5-4 ohms.

Subwoofer
JL Audio 10W3V3 This is a 2 ohm sub which handles 300 Watts continuous.

Amp Wiring Kit
JL Audio 8AWG Wiring Kit

Speaker Wire
This can be found at a local RadioShack® or whatever
