My Radar Setup
Everyones always talking about their radar setup, stealthcord, etc...
Heres mine:
Equipment: Passport 8500 X50 Radar Detector - Red
Power Cord: Direct Wire SmartCord with mute button
The cord allows me to mute the radar with the cord button instead of reaching over to the radar to mute it, which is hardwired into the fuse box. Also mute button, has a red alert light (blinks) and green power light on the mute module.
The radar is mounted rite under the tint for 3 reason:
1) Discreet install (hardly visible from outside)
2) Protects it from sun rays
3) Height of the radar from the ground is perfect; less interference which is caused by the car in front of you because the radar is mounted to low. Signal strength is better at this height instead of mounted in the middle or button of the windshield.

How difficult is it to get the wire to run from the top?

I have the same RD and have it in the same spot actually. Could you give more detail about how you actually have it wired? I was looking at direct wiring mine, but I do like the extra mute button.

I'm pretty sure that you are supposed to mount it lower on the windshield but not too low for the best signal strength. Atleast thats what I remember reading in the manual and on radar info sites and such...

I don't know of any LEOs in NW IN or Chicago that use laser, so I don't worry about it much. The other reason I have mine next to the mirror like that is it blocks very little of my view there, but is very easy to glance up and see if it starts squealing.

Thats funny you say that, cuz I thought the same thing. Then yesterday after posting on this thread, I was driving to go get some Portillos, and an unmarked car was sitting off the side of the road on the way to the restauraunt. I saw him hold up the gun and point it at my car as I passed, and boom, LASER ALERT. It was the first one in the Chicago area that I have seen, and luckily I wasn't speeding haha. So maybe they are just now getting into it, but if I saw correctly, it looked like that super high end lasergun that is regarded as the best out there, but I forget the name... But if you are in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, be aware of lidar!!!
