So alot of the time the cop has your speed as the detector sounds.
"Most detectors" are not being discussed here. We're discussing the top 5, all of which can pick up residual radar traces from miles away. All a cop has to do is turn their radar on for a few seconds to check the speed of a car a few miles ahead of you and your radar will alert you. Laser is a diff story but we're not talking about laser.

Obviously the $50 radars at Walmart are, in fact, useless.

^^Very true, but I don't think TicketProof was talking about picking up radar shooting cars a mile or so ahead of you. I think he's talking more about if the cop is a few hundred feet ahead of you and shoots you with his radar. Not leaving it on. Some radars now have POP or instant on modes which are almost as fast as laser. Trust me, I know from experience. I came over a hill and saw the cop and he saw me and my V1 went from silent to full power instantly. By the time I hit my brakes it was too late the speed he told me was only 2-3mph lower than what i was doing at the time.

I guess it would work this way if your car somehow absorbed all the radar signal but that is not how it works. For every time you get instant-zapped and get a ticket, drivers 2 miles down the road with high quality radar detectors get a blip on their detector.

Coming over a hill might be a special situation, but hardly reason to declare that radar detectors are not useful because you are already clocked by time they go off. That's simply false as a generalization.

Im NOT talking about other cars here. I know that if they are gunning people upahead you will pick it up. Im just talking about one on one. If your the only car around and come up on a cop with POP any detector no matter what kind is not gonna do much,

The problem is that the $1600 Escort 9500CI is 4 times more expensive than the $399 Valentine One and you can't move it from car to car. On top of that, the Escort 9500CI comes with the ZR4 laser shifter which is a POS and not very good at jamming laser at all. You are better off with a Valentine One radar/laser detector and a Laser Interceptor laser jammer.
