eh its such crap. here in fl they have an exhaust modification law that states it cant be louder than stock although most cops rarely use it. but then you have choppers running around with annoying straight pipes.

^^^Well they don't follow it. My husband got pulled over in his loud a** Camaro z28 by 3 cops while he was there (one for not using a blinker, which was a lie, one for burning rubber, and one for wreckless driving, but none for speeding) and none got him for loud exhaust. And he only had QTP headers and a racing Y pipe with a cutout (besides the littler stuff)!

LOL the GPS is far from useless.
1. Blocking by location AND frequency. That's right, Escort is smart enough to know it would be useless if it ignored a cop that is parked where the grocery door was ignored. They accounted for it just fine. It locks out by location, band, and frequency. I don't miss any of the 7 false alarms on my way to and from work.. not one bit.
2. Speed-sensitive alerting. Driving through a grocery store parking lot at 5mph? Your radar won't annoy you with a bunch of alerts... even if there's a cop parked in the lot with his radar on. It'll just beep twice and display the band/strength to tell you what's there so you don't go trying to do donuts in the lot in front of that cop.
3. Custom threat location marking. Reminds you when about the speed trap locations so you don't have to remember them. This is powerful stuff just WAITING to be utilized -- in my area the news stations publish police speed trap locations every day.
Other features besides the GPS that the 9500 has that the V1 sorely lacks:
1. Auto volume control. Playing loud music or have your windows down? You'll hear your threat alert. Just cruising or talking on the phone in a quiet car? You'll still hear it, but not deafingly loud because you forgot to turn it down from the last time you had your windows down.
2. Auto dimming. Your car has automatic headlights and interior lighting controls but your radar detector doesn't? Why?
Other than that, the 9500xi offers very similar range to the V1, and all other features of the V1 (including tracking and displaying multiple threats simultaneously) minus the arrows. I'd love to have the arrows but I won't trade any of the above for them. I rarely need to touch the radar detector anymore -- not for muting a false, not for messing w/ the volume level, and not for adjusting it for day/night display.
I think its time for a Valentine V2 to be released.

Mal you're not getting it... GPS is useless... don't ask me to back that up with facts.. NO ONE ELSE HAS... we just like to make the statement. Maybe the day after it comes out in a V2 it will miraculously convert some V1 users.. until then.. the world is flat!

um i just turned off x-band radar on my 8500 since everyone uses k- or ka- now. that got rid of 95% of false door alarms. like i said, i still dont see justifying extra $ for gps when you can just drive smart.

i live for speed, i need it.
the sensitivity is 1 of the things that kept me away from the v1. the only false alarms i ever get with my 8500 are 5% of automatic doors if im pointed right at them. and its never let me down for catching cops up ahead.
what i really need though is a laser jammer.
Admittedly some of these do sound like nice features. It seems to be like the PC/Mac thing. People are either on one side of the fence or the other and getting them to convert isn't easy. I am constantly annoyed by the K band highway monitoring cam/radars to the point where I don't trust my V1 anymore with the instant on stuff, as that's how those usually set it off. Valentine tech support tells me I can adjust the K band sensitivity, but if I could block each of these things out individually like the 9500 can apparently do, that would seemingly be nice and would make my drive to work much quieter.

I was going to make that point.
Although I think I drive smartly, I get to the point where you just get comfortable having the detector after you get use to driving with one. It end up being an "information gathering device" and allows you to make better driving decisions.

Even the stupid roadside speed displays ("Your speed is...") use K band. Trust me, you're just lucky if you find the GPS feature useless. That doesn't make it useless for everyone just because in your area its all X and you can just turn it off. That just makes you lucky.
Also, just because something costs more doesn't mean it is not useful. To some, the extra $100 is meaningless, and if they listen to you they would not get the extra features even though they have no problem affording it. Why buy an Infiniti G37... it costs more than lots of cars that offer similar or better performance/features? I mean, we could argue that the features of the G are not worth the extra money and therefore they are useless, right?

I think that we should have a product that combines these features... but so long as V1 advocates go around preaching that these features have no value, Valentine will NOT invest money in adding them to their product. Its simply not rational -- as customers, folks should be pressuring Valentine to "regain" their crown by adding the features of the 9500xi and improving their differentiating features even further, and releasing something like a V2.
I'd buy a V2 in a heartbeat if it offered the best of both worlds. Right now, as I see it, the best choice overall is clearly the 9500xi.
That said, I would have happily kept using my 8500 x50 for probably one more year, if not for the vandals that smashed my window to steal it. So, I guess, money DOES matter
