NavTeq is the maps. Not the logic behind the whole thing from what I understand.

maybe your speed settings are messed up. I remember when i first got my G there were settings in the nav for avg speed on certain types of roads. maybe you have hwy set really fast and like county roads slow or something like that so its calc this retarded route.

On another note i need to learn to do that waypoint thing too. Here in NYC theres like 14 diff ways to go to one place and it never takes me the way i know is better.

You do have the option to set avoidance areas. you could set it to avoid one of the highways its telling you to use on that stupid route, then see what it comes up with.

I'm using the defaults for this. I'll try changing them.

the highway and country road settings are usually not realistic. try adjusting them to your real world driving and see if it makes a difference

This helped. Still not choosing the best way though.

Could it be something to do with the regional settings? I had a problem one day trying to set a destination in Michigan, which is in a different "region" than Ohio, and it got all screwy on me. Just an idea?

Well I had to change regions to select my destination. Not sure if the software just has problems with trip "cross regions". If it to does, that's pretty crappy.

As I mentioned, I've never had problems before with local use.

shortest route implies mileage
shortest time implies uhhh time.

it figs time based on avg speeds on diff road types.

shortest distance will usually make you make a bunch of turns and use local roads. depending.

just put it on shortest time.

This is the whole reason I didn't want nav on my G. I had it on my old G coupe and it sucked massive *****. It's like the sport seats I didn't want because that thigh extender hurt the back of my legs. I love my car even if I don't have the options you all do. I especially love not having those 19 inch rims! Guess you can say that I am a minimalist.
