Radar detector vs. G37 Preview braking false alarms?
#46
here is what i have confirmed with the 9500IX
when aimed\mounted in a fashion where the recievers have a view of the dash above the nav screen - you will get a false laser alert - continuously. if you block off the section above the nav with something false laser alert goes away. so mounting the unit below the rear view on aftermarket mounts cause it to false because something in the dash is emitting.
is the detector too sensitive ? who knows.. if I cant remedy it I will be returning mine and getting something else.
my previous detector did not have this issue (passport solo2)

My guess was correct, the car is causing the 9500ix to give constant false positives on laser continuously.
Rather then return this unit and get something else I have come up with a rather simple fix for getting rid of the false laser alerts given off by my car and its nav unit.
get a peice of electrical tape and apply as shown
This cresent moon shape peice points straight down, it is not sloped or angeled. There is no need for that (you will never be lasered from your dashboard
) when mounting directly below the mirror, so I just covered it.
THIS IS THE PROBLEM AREA
BEFORE (THIS IS MY GUESS OF HOW IT WORKS I AM NO EXPERT)
AFTER
Everything is working now, NO MORE FALSE LASER SIGNLAS, GPS locks ON after 10 seconds in clouds and around houses. My guess is that somehow the false laser interferance was also responsible for that.
dont send your unit in, just do this instead and save on shipping. I know it seems cheesy but it works.
originally I had designed what I call a "duck bill" for the unit, it was black but I didnt have to use it, electrical tape works better and you cant even see it.

Awesome find!!! I was thinking it was RF, but it's the LCD apparently if blocking the bottom seciton does the trick. Also explains why I got no false laser mounting to the right of the LCD and behind it.

Confirmed fix, although I had to push my mount all the way back as far as it would go on the review view mirror arm along with the detector on it's mount and ad a slight up tilt. Prior to the up tilt it was within a millimeter of detecting the LCD. I'm gong to try it like this and if bumps set it off extend the tape a couple millimeters into the front as well. It's definately the LCD you can put your hand over it and clear the laser alert.

i used a piece of double sided sticky tape to stop it from bouncing, in between the mirror and top of the unit. its pretty firm and doesnt move. i used permanant marker on the tape to make it black so you dont see it. not shown in picture.

well, today I took mine back for a refund. It falsed on me again after adjusting my mirror to a usable angle., at this point I give in and will wait for another model.
can't say I didnt try though.

Sorry to hear it didn't work for you. It's hard to tell by the pics, but with it sitting that far back it looks like you are using a Mike's mount or something similar? I found that by using the regular suction cup mounts, that the unit sits far enough forward to not have any issues with the screen. With the Invisicord, it still looks clean, and I haven't had one false laser alarm in over 4 months now.

Christian you should be able to get it to work on Mikes mount, I pushed it all the way back on the bar as far as it will go as with the detector on it's mount. I used a little over a 1/4" rectangle of velcro under the mirror and on top the detector to lock it in solid and allow me to remove it for programing. There's a very slight up tilt to it and now no falses at all.

it doesnt lock out lasers, it locks out radar bands. If it locks out a location with a k band and a cop camps there and shoots an X band, it will still pick it up.
