Hard drive national back order
Just an informational post-
I took my G in 2 weeks ago for the NAV lock up/climate control lock up/radio lock up. I also had the yellow "key" indicator light below the tachometer lit while driving the car. I am not sure how, but apparantly something is bad in the hard drive and somehow or other caused part of the interlock system to fail, so, if i was driving my car, there may come a time at which I would not be able to start the car, due to the interlock system malfunction.
Infiniti called me last Friday and told me that they had bad news- the existing hard drives that were sitting on parts department shelves also have the bad part in them, so they were all sent back to Japan to be replaced with new units. I was told to expect a 4-6 week wait for a replacement part to be shipped from the manufacturer. Meanwhile, my car is grounded at Infiniti and I have one of their loaners for the next indefinate period of time.
If you are having problems with your nav/hard drive in your car, if you take it in, chances are, you will be waiting a long time for the part to come in.

Wow thats a long time to have a loaner, ur lucky! U will save some serious miles on your car, they are inadvertently preserving more value to your car, lol! gluck
BTW how prevalent is this issue is it as widespread as the muffler rattle or more random and isolated? I wonder if mine will go bad...

I was told through a voicemail message that there was a sector bad inside of the hard drive, which caused very frequent lock up's, sometimes 3-4 a day. The main problem with my car is the yellow "key" indicator light, which when lit, indicates a failure with the interlock system. Somehow or other, the HDD is linked to the interlock system and is what is causing that part of the problem. That is why they are keeping the car and not giving it back to me. I had a voicemail from them today saying that they could not start the car due to the interlock system not allowing them to do it, so I am glad that I didn't have the car when this happened. I'll wait it out.
