Nav Screen Freeze Possible Fix From Dealer?

Hey everyone. I have had the same occurrence as some others have had where the G37's nav screen freezes when the car is started and no buttons respond, not even the temperature controls, although the air conditioner is blowing. Then the Infiniti screen comes up after about 2-5 mins and then it works normal.

It has only happened once about 2 weeks ago and we have had the car for almost a year now. Nevertheless we took the car to the dealer.

After having the car for a day, the dealer said that the "power source" that powers the nav screen and the temperature controls needs to be replaced because it is faulty. Now I'm no expert at all when it comes to these kinds of things, but this doesn't sound right to me. It sounds like the problem that many of us are having is a programming problem and not an electrical problem.

I'm just afraid that if we refuse this "solution" the dealer will not honor any warranty claims in regard to this freezing screen issue in the future because we didn't let them replace what they think is the problem.

I don't know the part number of the "power supply" that they are referring to, but my question to all of you is should I let the dealer replace the "power supply" or does this not sound like the right solution to the problem? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know of anyone who has this problem... the dealer might be right... BTW where do you live? when and what time did this start happening?

My G is over a year old and my Nav has never froze or failed to start. I haven't heard of any Nav freezes either

Have the dealer replace the part that they think is the problem. I don't see any issue with questioning their judgement. They are right 75% of the time, so the odds are in your favour

It's actually fairly common. Mine has done it twice in 1 year. Think of your Nav as a computer as it is. Sometimes the software glitches and freezes. Similar to the iPhone.

I live in California. It was hot that day, and the car sat in the sun all day. Temperature could be a factor, but the car has sat in the sun numerous times in really hot weather and there was no problem.

Here's some threads with other people who experienced the same thing:

That's how I've been thinking of it. It's like a glitch/issue with the program that the hard drive is running.

It doesn't seem unreasonable to me. If there is a current drop or something similar when the car is started and the controller isn't getting the proper amount of juice it could cause any number of odd problems.

Interesting. Thanks. That makes sense and that's the kind of thing I wanted to find out. I don't know anything about electrical stuff, so the dealer giving me such an explanation would have been helpful.

Anymore feedback is still welcomed from anyone. You can never have too much information when it comes to these things.
