Some links since there is so much misinformation out there. Both XM and Sirius are guilty of this since both sites posted very misleading information. I can see why so many people are hoping for things that aren't going to happen.

Fortune500 Article

CNET Article

And below is a excerpt from the Official FCC press release which can be found here.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
New Programming Packages and A La Carte Options
Within three months of consummation of the merger:

• The first a la carte-capable radios must be introduced in the retail after-market, and the combined company must begin offering a la carte programming.

• The combined company must offer customers the ability to obtain on existing receivers “best of” packages that provide both Sirius and XM programming, as selected by the merged company, at a monthly cost of $16.99.

• Customers must have the option of choosing a package of “mostly music” programming and a package of news, sports and talk programming at a monthly cost of $9.99 for each option.

• Consumers must be able to purchase a “family-friendly” version of existing Sirius or XM programming at a cost of $11.95 a month, representing a credit of $1.00 per month. Current Sirius customers must also be able to choose a family-friendly version of Sirius programming that includes select XM programming, and current XM customers must be able to choose a family-friendly XM programming option that includes select Sirius programming. This programming will cost $14.99 per month, representing a credit of $2.00 per month from the cost of the “best of” programming.

Interoperable Radio Receivers
The Commission required the combined company to offer for sale an interoperable receiver in the retail after-market within nine months of consummation of the merger.

My biggest complaint is that they seem to have a rotation of about 20 songs on pop stations. The 70's 80's and 90's are good but they are just as good on Sirius. And to top that all off, a handfull of stations are off the air now like 29 and 80. I think I might switch to Sirius because I believe I read a thread saying that you just need to change the config in the setup mode to use Sirius. I just wouldn't want to lose NavTraffic... F'ing traffic data is sweet, it saves me a good 30 min every morning going to work.

You have to swap out the receiver to get Sirius. However if you use a 3rd party antenna, the XM NavTraffic will continue to work (will cost $9.99 a month if you want traffic only).

not a swap out...the sirius unit over-rides the xm once its plugged in. i used the low profile sirius antenna placed on the speaker deck. the nav traffic does still work.

Just to clarify... speedracer is correct for the cars with Nav. Cars with nav have the receiver built into the main AV controller, so when you hook up the Sirius receiver it over rides the XM signal. However for the cars without nav, the XM receiver is external (right side of trunk floor), so you do in fact swap it out.
