turning a sealed box into a ported
can you take a sealed box and just cut holes on each of the sides on the front where the subs are located and make it into a ported box? do the holes hafta be very big, or just what ever your taste may be?

to answer ur question of course you can.
but there are acoustics and all that kinda stuff involved like cubic airspace how long the ports, how far from the back, how big the hole. so to answer ur other question probably wouldnt be advisable if ur box was made the way it was?
there's alot of sound guys on this forum probably know aboutall this stuff.

I would NOT do this....
a couple reasons:
1. Ported boxes require larger space inside (Cubic Ft)
2. Ported boxes require tuning
3. If you have to ask if the "holes hafta be very big" then it seems like your just trying to "wing it" and will mess it up...
Take it to your local shop and have them do it or better yet have them build you a new one. It will save you the headache in the end!
Im not an audio buff but i know a lil... GL!

so .... its too late then basicly?
i bought the sealed box because it was custom fit for my trunk and saved me SOOOO much space. it sounds really clear and really good, but i was thinking if there were 2 small holes that it would be able to push some air too.

Technically, if the sealed box size fit the speaker-specific air space requirements for ported/vented enclosures, then you could use it. Calculate proper port size specs and walla!

Thats some funny shat! Seriously though, it will not sound good with just holes cut into the box. You should read up a little more on enclosures, try and listen to some and then decide. Your best bet is just stick with the sealed.
