iPhone Hookup

The way I always did it is set the car to "receive phonebook" or download phonebook (i forget the exact option), and then go to my phone and send my entire phonebook over to the car... it sends all contacts, name/number.
I do have the navi...
As far as the separate phonebooks, I've always paired a new phone in addition to the one I always use. Maybe that's a difference...

Ok, so after further investigation it seems that only the Navi system supports the ability to copy a phone book with name/number via Obex. The none navi system(Premium Package) just gives you the ability to push the mobile # through obex. So essentially you need to manually enter each contact via voice entry into your system and get no on screen name guidance. And you can only select people to call via their voice recognition name.
I think this is truly the first time that I wish I had gotten the Navi package in addition to my car. All along I said I could do without the onboard navi(have external GPS), music box(have Ipod and mp3 cd's), voice recognition commands(have hands), and backup camera(would be nice to have but ony real option I saw myself ever using and not worth the additional 2 g's. But if I knew the phone system was not fully integrated in the Premium package I would have upgraded in a heartbeat.

Pretty sure it was just AT&T's way of keeping track of iPhones. The iPhones used a specail activiation process so they probalby needed to indentify each sim card for that process.
As for phonebook transfers, I was able to get my phonebook downloaded out of a blackberry peral to my G37 w. nav. The trick was to go into the bluetooth setup in the pearl, and select the My Car hit the menu key and select download phonebook. So for that car ride i could access the downloaded phonebook. via my nav screen.
But the next day I got into my car paired up and the downloaded phone list wasn't an option. Not sure if you have to do it everytime, but didn't try it again cause I was swithing back to an iphone.
I'll have to try the swap thing mentioned earlier. Hopefully that might work!
