that all depends on what amp you use, and how much current it draws. Really has nothing to do with what sub it is. Sure the sub might make the amp draw more current but the amp is the one that needs adjusting or capacitor or whatever

just wondering if i might have the same problem too, i am going to hook up a a cerwin vega EXL-350 (350 amps) and a single jl audio 10w3v3, do you all think i will need a cap as well?

The g37 has a pretty beefy standard alternator (150A.) I wouldn't bother with a cap they're just a band aid.
First step upgrade your grounds
Next you could always upgrade the Alt. What guage wire you using on your amp?

I hear upgrading the Alt can be a bad thing. I have been told that it can mess with other parts of the car since it will produce more power than needed. I remember hearing this back in the day when my friend did this on his car and it messed up some of his electronics on the car. Not sure if this is true for all cars and for new cars like ours. Caps are the way I would go.

caps are a band aid. Just think about how much power a capacitor can hold generally you're talking 1-2 farads. The power discharges very quickly.
So what happens when this power discharges - it needs to charge back up again - how? - by drawing current. So now you have your amp that's pulling current and the cap pulling the current to recharge itself. In the long run it is much harder on your system.
Think of a strobe light, it strobes with the help of a capacitor. It flashes and depletes the light stops to recharge the cap and then the light flashes again etc...
Maybe a small 2nd battery in your trunk? My lights do not dim at all and I am running a considerable amount more power

I know the second battery is a good idea if you are running alot of power. As far as the Cap though, they are good too. If your lights are dimming on those hard hits then the cap can be used to even out the system. It is like a UPS sorta were the amp takes the power from the cap when there is not enough from the Alt/battery. It evens out the power. Works on a lot of systems that I have seen. Like anything else you will need to replace the cap down the road though.
