Finally mounted my V1 radar detector.
From outside the car, the unit blends into the rearview mirror, and is hard to see.
The remote display fits nicely where the ashtray was, and I was able to tap off the lighter for power.
How's the radar reception in the rear from mounting it up that high? Seems like it wouldn't be able to see out the back window very well.
Thats what I thought too when considering putting the concealed display in the ash tray as well, but decided to just get Mike's mount and stick it under the mirror for the unit to have better visibility
The only thing is having to look down to get status...Takes your eyes off the road. I woulda tried to put it near the guage cluster.
I drove a bit with it today, I love the fact that the mute button is right at your fingertip!
It seems to receive fine from the front and rear, lots of radar working on Easter!
The ashtray door can stay closed until you need it, the warning sound comes from the detector itself, and the different radar bands are identified by different beeps, so the remote can then be used to verify direction of the signal and its strength.
I would like to mount it in the cluster, (near the top but it would hide the battery light) so I wouldn't have to look down, but the area around the cluster is sealed up pretty tight, I didn't want to hack anything up, yet
Obviously. Look at the first picture, the V1 is mounted way too high.
Agreed. I have a mount similar to the Mike's mount and the V1 gets increased visibility (was noticeable right off the bad) - when I moved it from on the windshield to down a few inches and off the mirror.
I even have double limo tint on the rear windows and it picks up radar band for a long distance with no problems!
