Which radar detector should I get?
So next fall I'll be transferring schools out of state and want to get a radar detector to help avoid getting tickets while out there. I'll be driving down the 10 from CA through AZ to NM and occasionally around TX on the weekends and want to get a device that gives the best protection in those 4 states. If I understand right (I am clueless about every aspect of them), a concealed detector mounts behind the grill and near the rear license plate with the LCD mounted on the dash. If that's the case, I'd prefer one of those (Escort Passport SR7 meet my requirements?), else a portable one will do. So what do you guys recommend?

the SR7 is a radar jammer.. which are illegal in most states so i would make sure you check your laws first.. i personally have a escort 9500I hard wired into my car and i couldnt be happier!

Damn, where does it say its a radar jammer? I must have missed it.
According to this site though, radar detectors are legal in the 4 states that I'll be traveling through and laser jammers are good in them as well except for California. That site didn't mention anything about radar jammers though.

Terrible, with the 9500I, do you have to manually program all of the Truelock filters or does it use the GPS to get the information off of a database?
Also, I remembered seeing signs when going up Highway 5 to the Bay Area a couple weeks ago that the speeds are radar enforced by airplane. Do all of these detectors alert for those planes as well?

Ive have no radar detector for 4 years and no tickets up until last month.
Point is, Ive seen the Valentine 1 in action...and it works...also points in the direction where the signal is.
Saved my Buddies M6 while racing Chris's HPF750 M3 on the way up to Vegas for Mfest.

For example, on the way back from Mfest we decided to hit 200 in his ungoverned M6...now for instance an officer were to get onto the freeway seconds before we approach his on ramp. It could easily help us by providing us with information that we care about. An officer in front of us at 200, big no no...Officer somewhere behind us at 200, keep going.
Yes we're idiots for speeding, but its our lives and it was 4am on the road back from vegas, if any of you have ever been, its straight for miles with NO traffic sometimes for 5 miles at a time. So no BS about speeding, thank you.
Valentine 1 FTW.

I've had a Valentine 1 for about a year now. Works great. Like to have a jammer. But think is, even with it hidden very well. They still know you have one on you. Unless your in traffic and there not sure of what car it might be.

Hah. I have had a V1 for about 3 years with no radar tickets but i am guessing by the way you phrased your statement that you have gotten laser tickets (I have gotten 2 laser tickets even with the V1. It warns you, but you are already in trouble by the time it goes off)
