how are you going to control the carputer? it will be interesting to see how the installer would integrate the stock touchscreen capability with a aftermarket unit.

the only thing is the carputer hardware is designed for car temperatures with pretty good heat sinks and cooling capabilities...id have to run some serious diagnostics to make sure my carpc runs cool since im going to overclock the bejesus out of that thing.

I been running a via based itx carputer in my FX for 3 years (no need to overclock) with a seperate screen since I didnt have a navy screen. Now I just got a g37S without nav. I want to overlay a touchscreen over existing screen, somehow figure out the pin outs on the i-pod jack for higher quality video input and connect my carputer to it. I got about 80% figured out, but it involves some extra time figuring out the IPOD bs. Anyone had luck connecting something other than i-pod to the provided connector?

I saw something like that but yeah, it's too big. And for those of us w/o Navigation & bluetooh, we're more than likely not wanting to have to window mount a unit.

I agree that a carPC is the way to go except the stock screen has a very low resolution that makes reading text very hard (on 08 and 09 cars at least...haven't seen the new screens)).
Instead, get a new 7 touchscreen to go in the stock location. You can probably use the RGB signal going to the stock screen and convert it to something that can be viewed on one of the secondary inputs of the new screen.
