Nav Tint Interfearance?

Nav Tint Interfearance?
I was at the tint shop the other day and the guy selling me the tint actually recommended the cheaper tint because he was afraid a metal tint would interfere with my AM and Nav. He pointed out the separate Nav in the rear window. So I was wondering, what if I put metal only on the sides and non metal on the back window. Would it still be too close to cause problems?

There are three types of tint. One is the "cheap" or standard kind. The other has metal in it, which is added to cut down on the amount of heat coming into the car. The last is the ceramic type. Metal can interfere with your radio/sat/gps. I wouldn't take the chance.
I had a ceramic tint put on. See this write up from the guys who did my tint:

Silly. Someone wants to sell you ceramic tint. The navi antenna is in the dash. As long as you don't tint your front windshield you will be fine. Anything on the rear window is stereo antennas. The car has multiple ones in the glass.
Anyway, see (19) in this image.

The nice thing about the ceramic tint is the ratio of amount of heat reflected compared to VLT is better. For me it was nice, since I wanted the front windows tinted but still wanted to look mostly legal.

Try to get 3M color stable. Its more expensive than the metallic, but from what I hear, other non-metallic/ceramic tints tend to fade over time. Its also a flatter black, which to me looked a lot nicer.

I had a GS300 back in the day that had the GPS antenna in the rear panel, and metallic tint interfered with it...
I think most cars these days have them in the front dash/front windshield... I know my SC430 had a thin strip running down the middle of the windshield, and now the G37 in the dashboard.
Anyway, as I dont plan on having this car for longer than the 3 year lease, I really dont care what kind of tints are on it, as long as they're good (reduce heat and makes it harder to look into the vehicle).
I've had all kinds of tints too... ceramic, metallic, regular... I really couldn't tell the difference as far as the heat reflection qualities (but then again, the cars changed along with the tints...)

Pg 5-5 or our fantastic owners' manual
Do not place metalized film or any metal
parts (antenna, etc.) on the windows. This
may cause poor reception of the signals from
the tire pressure sensors, and the TPMS will
not function properly.
