Cheapest so far is about $1000 and that's only because of the GTR "tax." Cant even find a HDD and I still haven't heard back from PacParts about whether the replacement HDD is preloaded or blank.
But how could we access the MFD? Our switches don't have a FUNCTION button.

I think we could access the MFD if we somehow got the image to boot on a VM where we could emulate/spoof the function button via bash. There must be a way, the hardest part is going to be sourcing the image and getting a boot loader firmware to read the image in a VM

To date I still have not heard back from PacParts about the replacement HDD for the GTR. I'm willing to bet that it comes blank as the same part number for the HDD is listed for other models. That said, if they sell replacement HDD's for these specific Clarion units, who and how does the HDD get programmed? DVD?
It just seems to me that something simple is missing in this equation. We have already verified that the files for multiple platforms exist on the HDD. Being that the same units use practically the same pinouts across said platforms leaves me to believe that a software switch somewhere is the key. Unless it's in the firmware then I'm out of ideas.
I did find a 2012 torrent titled Nissan R35.iso but I havent been lucky pulling anything yet so I don't know if it's a HDD image or something else. I've not found anything else online. No GTR disk images anywhere....

the difference is unit firmware.
On the dvd there are 3 program versions.
For example, on EU G37, it install the X1E program version. On the same dvd, there is X2E and X3E
I bet the other 2 are for different models. Maybe one of them is for GTR...
Anyway, when installing the software on the unit, the user can chose only the correct version for that specific car.

So what your saying Elco is we could technically figure out with folder is for the GTR and overwrite the other folders and put it back in with that and cross our fingers it loads that profile. I was also thinking maybe there is a way we could utilize the USB port on our cars as an input device for the system, emulate a function button. It must be mapped somehow. Anyone ever try a USB keyboard in the cars port?

The plastic unit above the AV unit is the AC and unified meter AMP unit.
When replacing the AV unit, keep your original AC AMP unit.
Replacing the AMP will cause some CAN BUS errors.
The AMP can be removed very easy from the AV unit holders.

No, I already swapped the system in my car months ago. I meant that I bought another unit to tinker with.
If the DVD only updates versions based on firmware then it stands to reason that there is either more info on the DVD, a different DVD perhaps?, or another method used to load the software on the blank drive. Either way it seems that the firmware is going to be the thorn in our sides.

So I'm reviving this thread. I just bought a 2014 Nissan 370Z that has the navigation system, and I'm planning to figure out how to replace the hard drive when it eventually fails. I see that Nissan wants nearly $5,000 for a new replacement for part number 25915-3LZ1B. It's inevitable that the hard drive will fail before the car is worn out. A big thanks to Elco for laying the groundwork experimenting on his own car. I plan to buy a salvage unit from eBay and copy the hard drive in it. Has anyone successfully replaced the drive in a US market car?
I did some poking around in the APP.BIN, looks like the head unit uses a Renesas SH7750R processor, and the application was written with Windriver's vxWorks RTOS (version 5.5.1). A debugger string I found:
makes me wonder if there is a LAN connection on the board somewhere, or if they were using a LAN connected JTAG module.

All who have been participating in this thread, are we sure these units are running QNX? It seems to me theyre running VXworks. I was poking around with a hex editor and looking at what I assume is the boot file and there's text in there that says "Wind River systems" which is the company that writes VXWorks.
I dont think booting these units will happen with Vmware or anything of the like. I took my unit apart and saw it has a Renesas R7770 CPU. That's a SH4 based CPU. I do think there's development environment and Debugging tools for VXworks we can use to peer around the OS.

Looks like unlocking the GTR Features IS possible as done by a russian company. Wonder how they did it
They offer the service as well, but not sure if you need to be local, etc
Options for the provision of services:
- At our dealers
- Remotely
- Substitution of equipmentNissan / Infiniti 2003-2017 - the organization and conclusion of telemetry based on the Nissan GTR for regular on-board computers Nissan Connect Premium 08it.
The specialists of our company successfully managed to add telemetry from the sports legend Nissan GTR R35 !!
Now every Nisaan / Infiniti owner will be able to get readings like a sports car.
The amount of information and its processing depends on the installed sensors in the car.
If necessary, we are ready to help with the conclusion of the necessary information, subject to the availability of equipment in the car. (e.g. turbines).
The menu is activated by pressing the key 6. Control both from the steering wheel buttons, the control console, and touch from the screen.
Each owner, at his discretion, can combine and display the information he needs.

HI all.
I have 2010 infiniti EX with nav and Bose system, I tried to update the system as I have had some issues with the control unit.
I downloaded an image of the update, burned a DVD and inserted into the unit. The update process went well, but after restarting the car the system wont start, it only displays the Infiniti logo and then goes into closed loop boot cycle. It turns on and off again and again
Question - may someone help me with formatting the hdd and installing the software manually by any kind of PC?
Thanks in advance.

OP stated in his other thread that he may have used a Euro-spec update. Not clear for sure though. Update Fail
I suggested he replace the headunit unless he is able to source a HDD image for his car and is able to remove his existing HDD and try copying the image over. No guarantees, though.
