Simply covering up the hole doesn't eliminate the security threat. Any seasoned car theif is going to know about this flaw, and they arn't going to let a flimsy piece of plastic stop them. They don't care about damaging the car, so if they want to break in to your car they will just break that cover off. The only way to eliminate the flaw is to cut the wire. The drawback to this is that a thief won't know the wire has been cut until your car is already damaged!
