The AUX will output audio whether or not the ebrake is on, so you can buy a 3.5mm or dock connector to RCA and use the iPod/iPhone as an audio source (much like FM transmitter/cassette adapter style). However, if you want video output, the ebrake must be on (I have a 6MT, I'm not sure if the 5AT may need to be in P as well?).

With the newer generation of iPods/iPhone, it is mandatory to use Apple's AV cable. The headphone jack no longer has video output and Apple apparently made a hardware change. This in turn made it impossible for third-parties to create accessories for video output.

Mine works. I can play my iPod Shuffle via the AUX ports while driving if I only plug in the Red and White RCAs.

Try it. If you don't believe me, I'll take a video. Works like a charm.

I don't ever use it this way since my 80GB Video ipod works fine via the Ipod Interface, but the AUX works too.

This is correct! You can do audio while driving, just not video.
