HDD download question

I just started loading CD's onto the HDD and it proved to be easy ....the problem I am having is that the songs don't automatically have a title or artist....I can't imagine I have to manually input each song/title....what's the scoop?? HELP!!

You have two choices:

1. Retrieve title info from the HDD
--See section 4, page 50 in the owner's manual for details

2. Retrieve the title info from the web and re-uploading the songs to the HDD.
--Use the link below for the updates and instructions:

I'm assuming you can transfer MP3 files directly from the CF card, right? I've got tons of music that doesn't have titles which can be found on the web.

A pity this doesn't play FLAC files. You'd think with the high quality that Infiniti is touting with this audio system that it would play a lossless codec. Does it play other file formats than MP3?

You cannot transfer files from the CF to the HDD. You can only transfer files from an audio CD to the HDD. This is to appease RIAA. Justification: If you have an audio CD, you must therefore have the original media, therfeore you can make a copy to the HDD.. flawed thinking IMHO.

OK....Now for another stupid question.....In order to download the update from the internet you must use a compact flash that is compatable with the G37....Is a compact flash the same no matter which brand, etc?? I assume Circuit City or whatever?? Will a Mac computer work?? You can tell I'm not a 20 year old computer savvy type........

I can understand the reasoning even though I find it a crap decision on behalf of Infiniti.

It seems to me the CF is a gimmick. From what I can tell you can update song titles on a selected basis (not update the whole CDDB) and can play a paltry 2GB CF card's worth of MP3 and WMA files. That's all it can do?

I've got well over 750GB of recordings that were never pressed to CD. It's not worth cutting a CD-R just to load them onto the HDD. I'd rather buy an iPod (blech!).

Can lossless audio be transferred to the HDD or does it compress everything? I hope not the latter, what's the point of the "high end" audio platform Infiniti is touting.

At least in my M a lot of the material I own has been mixed to DVD-A and if compressed it's to DTS so I can listen in 5.1 surround.

From what I've read the update can use any CF but does require a Windows PC.

750GB!!! Forget about the CF upload limitations... The HDD is only 9.6GB.

My plan is to use a combination approach to satisfy my music needs:
--8GB CF Card
--80GB iPod with AnaPod Explorer for easy file transfers
--XM Radio: I may subscribe after the trial period
--HDD: With the limited space and restrictions, I may not use it.
--FM Radio: Probably not... Too many commercials and too much talk.

^ Don't bother with an 8GB CF card. The CF slot will only read the first 512 files on the CF card, which makes an 8GB CF card useless. You are better off with a couple 2GB CF cards instead.........that's what I've done.

I use the 8GB card, because I listen to DJ mixes (2 hrs per track) and the average file size is 200MB.

I agree, for listening to single tracks the 8GB card is over kill.

That's a great idea, combine songs together into a single file.
