What kinds of things have you been able to do with the compact flash card slot?

Theres lots of CF card adapters out there. Anyone tried a CF to USB adapter to play music off a USB flash drive?

Also, how large of a CF card have you been able to use? Has anyone been able to see if a high end 8gb or 12gb CF card will work?

There is a file limit so anything larger than 2 gigs or so would be wasted.

O boy I cant wait till we can just install linux on this harddrive and access it with the flip off a switch. I think the connection is easy, the hardest part is to figure out how to not disrupt the software that comes with the car.

There's also a limit of 512 files and 255 folders.
Embarrassingly stupid in this day and age.

I don't know why they even bothered butting a CF slot on this car. It seems almost point less with all the limitations. I am really disappointed.

That's no excuse for doing it right.

The whole automotive market is years behind when it comes to audio. Five years ago even the cheapest computer was able to read dvd's and play mp3's off them. This ain't rocket science.

Then again, all consumer electronics should come with completely customizable UI's given today's "technologies" such as XML. And the UI's shipped with the devices should be designed by someone other that EE's.

While I agree that they could have done it "right," we have more options in the stock premium setup than most do, period. Between HDD, CF and iPod, it leaves little room to complain.

I disagree. I think we have every right to complain. I would be completely happy if the car had only ipod support with no CF or HDD. You can buy a 80gb ipod for a couple hundred bucks and have all the music connectivity you want. In my opinion 2gb max CF card and a 9gb HDD that will take you forever to get music on are point less features. Features that we have to pay for. I would much rather have paid $1K less for the car without the limited CF and HDD music capability. I'll agree Ipod/CF/HDD looks good on paper and you can brag to your friends, but when it comes down to it Ipod is the only real way to play your music collection on this car. HDD and CF are just for looking cool.

Well I guess Infiniti is damned if they do and damned if they don't.

YOU might think a 9GB HDD and 512 limit CF slot is pointless, but not everyone thinks the way you do. I for one, think they are fantastic features and so does a lot of other people. I have a couple of 2GB CF cards and that gives me about 70 hours of music. I've also got about 30 albums ripped to the HDD, so that's another 30 hours or so of music. Not everyone needs/wants an 80GB iPod.

Did Infiniti implement these features perfectly? Nope! But I also give them credit for implementing features that no other car in it's class has and for a lot less money.

no you can't. All that does is transfers the titles of the songs.
