It appears as though the file limits are based on your audio options.

The 512 limit only applies to vehicles with the navigation system -- such as mine

CF Card Folder levels

With navigation system:
Folder levels: 8, Folders: 255 (including root folder), Files: 512 (Max. 255 files for one folder)

Without navigation system:

Folder levels: 8, Folders and files: 999 (Max. 255 files for one folder)
Well that just seems a$$-backwards.

Ahh well.

That doesn't make any sense.

You only get the CF slot with the Navigation package.

Perhaps, but that may not have been Infiniti's plan when the manual was written.

I'm just shocked by the many inconsistencies/limitations with the audio system.
It seems like for each work-around/detour there's another road block.

Oh well, my next approach will be to use my iPod and multiple CF cards.
I would go exclusively with the iPod, but I have a long bus commute and I rotate my iPod from the car to bus (via my backpack) when I remember to grab it.

Iko, I'm using an electronic version of the Infiniti's Owners Manual that came with my car. If you have your hard copy near by check page 4-36 - Monitor, climate, audio, phone and voice recognition systems manual.
My comments are from the specification chart - folder levels section.

When I get home tomorrow, I'll provide a link to the electronic version for anyone interested.

I found the link to the Owners manual: 2008 Infiniti G37 Owners Manual
If the link fails here is the address: http://www.g37-tech.com/files/2008-infiniti-g37-om.pdf

I used the online manual from the Infiniti website.

http://www.infiniti.com/iapps/techpu...Manuals_Guides

I unlocked the PDF and did a copy/paste.

Unless you work for Microsoft on the Zune project and have to hide from all your co-workers that you bought an IPod just to play music in your car.

Iko, maybe I'm missing something. I'm not questioning whether the CF reader is a Nav only option.

My message was to share information from the owners manual regarding the file limits on the CF reader.

DON'T SHOOT THE MESSENGER!!!

OK, looks like they have more updating to do on the manual. I see the same thing you posted on my manual, albeit page 4-35.

If you look at the page closely, it could be said these are the specs for all formats, not just CF. So, a data CD with burned MP3 would have limitations that are different depending on whether Nav is installed or not.

I noticed the same thing in regards to the media type(s) in question.

Hey, don't get me wrong - I LOVE the car, but some of the decisions surrounding the audio feature set just drives me crazy!!

I'm with you there. They made a great attempt to add some features, but made a half-*** attempt in their implementation.

Looks like they've got a couple revs out there for sure. The manual I posted came straight from the Infiniti.com website as of yesterday.
