4080 Subwoofer Enclosure
#31
Just wanted to point out to the nice people who are hopefully designing our boxes as we speak, that JL introduced a new line of subs, which need considerably less space...

Hopefully, along with the good designs of 4080 and this new speaker, we can minimize the space requirements for our vehicles so that we keep as much of the very small trunk space as we can...

Anybody have retail pricing on the JL Thin Line? Also, the previous 4080 G35 enclosures have been designed for 10" drivers if I'm not mistaken, that JL is only available in 12" and 13". Depth of the box is pretty good to accommodate most drivers.

Well, the 12" only has a 2" bigger circumference... I know... obvious... but as a matter of fact requires less air space. Hopefully the reason the 4080s were 10" before was because of the bigger air requirement of the regular 12" compared to the 10" which couldn't be accommodated by the space in our Gs.
At least it's something to tell the 4080 team to be aware of it... just in case!

Honestly, I'll take whatever I can get in the custom-made box arena. As long as it's deep enough to take a JL W6v2, I'll go with either 2x10"s or 1x12". Everytime I listen to the stereo in the G, I feel an emptiness of bass... it's getting old.

Got a voice mail this afternoon from Ainslie at 4080. He wants to get my car in for fitting. Hopefully we'll be able to get this done this week. I'll speak to him tomorrow and update you when I have solid info.
Progress!

UPDATE:
Well now the holdup is me. I won't be able to take the car in until next weekend, but I will leave it with them for the entire week so they will be uninterrupted during initial molding, test fitting and making any necessary change. I should know more by this weekend or the middle of next week.

I appreciate the update. I almost bought a Zenclosure but will wait since I loved the 4080 box in my previous G35 coupe.
Hopefully, my patience will pay off.

are they still going to be mid to high 300 dollars per box? wonder what these and the zenclosure box will look like... 4 10s would be an over kill maybe but i like bass... keep us posted!

I didn't ask, but I doubt they'd be going down in price. Updates as they happen.

UPDATE: I dropped my car off with Nick at 4080 last Saturday to be used for prototyping. He will have it all week. I will pick it up this Saturday and update you with whatever new information I get then.

UPDATE: Well I got my baby back tonight. The basic shape of the enclosures is done. There's a lot of sanding and finish work yet to be done to make them pretty, but seeing them in my car was a beautiful sight to me. In the coming few weeks they should be finalized and ready for production. I was told that it would possibly be 3 weeks or so. No, I didn't get any pictures - sorry, forgot my camera and it was late. Updates continue as they happen.
