real time traffic, my...

One of the reasons I wanted a nav (not that you can get one easily without) is for the real time traffic feature. unfortunately I have found it virtually worthless. three times so far, the system has indicated an accident, but lo and behold, as I drive through the "accident site" it is nothing but smooth sailing. then yesterday, as I was driving home there was a big backup on the interstate, I checked the navi- no mention of a problem, as I drove by the accident, they were almost done cleaning it up. so it was not new.

If I cant trust the information what good its it to me.

I guess I don't need to waste my money on that subscription.

What is the delay in reporting traffic information?

Accident reporting relies on human interaction for details such as location and severity as well as verification of reported incidents. The time span from when an accident occurs to when it is displayed on the navigation system will vary by time of the occurrence as well as location. Traffic icons may also remain on the navigation display for a period after the accident has cleared.

What city are you guys in? Maybe some cities are better than others, or XM Traffic just sucks.

I realize this, but the end result is If can't rely on the information, why would I pay for it. I can be just as accurate with a random guess.

I do wonder if as it becomes more popular, will the reporting get better due to sheer numbers. this is my only hesitation to give it up. I had such hopes for it.

Real-time traffic is a joke. There is so much traffic and construction road work here that all I get is those yellow warning signs on just about every road I drive! I plotted a trip to Indy once and then pulled up the real-time traffic information (the actual descriptions of the road conditions from the Nav controls) and there were like 20 sperate real-time entries along my trip route! I either need my own traffic helicopter telling me whats going on or just tune to news radio when I need info every now and then.

I will keep XM because I have grown to love it over the past couple of years, but that real-time traffic is of no value to me. good-bye!!

Regardless, if it can't be REAL TIME traffic then don't name it "real-time". Many G onwers bought the cars or the NAV because of it. I'm really upset ( grrr, nicest word I can use) for you guys.
