The first time I drove a long distance, I stopped at a rest stop and noticed my IK was missing. The car would start, so I knew the key was somewhere inside but no idea where. I spend like 30 minutes combing the interior. It had fallen between the drivers seat and center console. Now I always put that thing in the center cupholders.

Kind of off topic, but still a funny story, so here goes.

I parked my '07 sedan in a NYC garage last week, and I left the fob in the cupholder. When I picked my car up after work, the fob was the last thing on my mind (I usually commute via train, so I was just enjoying getting into my own vehicle), but after about 2 blocks, I put my hand there to grab it and it wasn't there. I checked the dash, and it doesn't give me the "no key" warning. I look around--visor, ash tray, console, seat--no key. Now I'm torn. No warning light, so the key has to be there. To get around the block is going to take at least 15 minutes in NYC rush hour traffic. What do I do? I decide to go back (thinking to myself, what if I never find it?). I go past the midtown tunnel, and swing around the block. Now I'm stopped at a light, and something gets my attention--the fob is sitting on top of the wiper blade! I grab it and get going. If I would've gone through the tunnel, the thing would've flown off immediately, and the no key light would've went on.

The lesson? Apparently, the windshield counts as "inside" the car for the purposes of the no key warning.

Thanks for reading!

Kromax, you just scared the crap out of me for two reasons,

1. "I parked my '07 sedan in a NYC garage last week, and I left the fob in the cupholder" - How did it get from the cupholder to the "outside" of your windshield?

2. I don't every want to get stuck in New York after losing my dang key fob, for obviouse reasons one of which is the "crime rate".

Now, I am definitely going to be guarding this fob at all times. Thanks for going through that nightmare for me.

Solution: lock it in the glove compartment and keep the key part of the fob yourself. Just tell the guy in the garage there is no key or fob. They actually prefer it that way.

That would be equivalent to leaving your key in the ignition so you would have to trust the garage to keep the thieves away.

We were playing with the FOB at the dealership - if it's sitting on the windshield that is the ONE place it thinks it's inside the car when it's not....

Back window/roof/etc doesn't work...just the windshield.

speaking of the fob... would it have really hurt Infiniti to place a hook on the fob part (which the valet keeps)? Where are they going to place the ticket/ring?

Here's an idea. Make a pouch with hook / loop to store the key fob. It also protects the fob from grimy fingers and makes your key fob more recognizable if you need to spot it. I think someone on G35Driver made some for the G35. Even better is to promote this site with a MyG37 logo on it.

Why was the key fob on the wiper blade in the first pace?

I usually do check. I was just baffled on why the fob would be on the wiper. :-)

What it should do is kick the shifter so it doesn't come out of gear
