Passport SRX vs K40 Calibre

Well I had a Passport SRX in my 04 G35 coupe. In my G37 the dealer didn't have the SRX so recommended the K40 Calibre. Since it was very convenient to have it done at the dealer and rolled into the total cost of my car I went for it. The reviews on the system seemed reasonable. However, after 2 months I would say if I was going to do it over again, I would have gone through the trouble of getting another SRX. I am not completely dissatisfied, but there are a few things about it I don't like. 1) The auto mute doesn’t work or just takes too long to activate (I'm taking that in to get checked out). 2) The manual mute (using the small remote) takes a long 2 seconds to work. This is very annoying when on the phone. In addition you have to use your hands to deactivate. 3) I get a lot of "false signals with no voice response, so I don't know what they are. I'm pretty sure the dealer will say all is working well. 4) There seems to be no build up of signal as in the SRX, just an immediate loud signal in response to something. 5) I am a little concerned that you cannot turn off the laser shifters, as is the case with the SRX. Will a continuous error signal on the trooper’s gun make him/her want to pull you over just to check it out? 6) There is also the minor issue of being followed by M45's with ICC (intelligent cruise control). The indicator beeps start squealing and doesn’t stop until you pull over or speed up out of range. I assume this would happen if followed by a G37 also but I haven’t seen any others except mine. Hope this helps.

Thanks Shiroda...given a choice, you sound like you prefer the SRX given your experience with both. I'll check out the SRX too-

V1 is still the best one out there IMO. It's saved me countless times (although I got tagged by laser once going 100 in a 65, but nothing except maybe a jammer could save me from that).

And I just got an invisicord for my car today, got the V1 working in a few minutes. For those of you having trouble getting the wires in there, take a flashlight and look at the pin holes carefully and find the side with the most room. Hold the pins on the invisicord tight and push them in firmly. I bent one of the pins on my first try, but the next time around I got them in just fine.

Does the K40 support laser (lidar) detection? How much benefit would you get from getting the dual radar receivers? Has anyone here gotten a ticket as they were clocked from behind? I am also thinking about springing for the Veil coating. Small price to pay for added security. The K40 is enticing, but seems to be quite pricey. It is worth at least 2x the price of a dash mounted, imo, because it won't get stolen and it won't incline an officer to write a ticket who wasn't already planning to anyways. But $2k for the full kit installed is nothing to laugh at. One ticket is supposedly going to cost $800 after court costs and insurance increases so I could justify spending around $1k for a fully integrated stealth system (including installation). Does anyone here have any opinions on the K40 other than shiroda? What about just the single receiver vs front and back?

Escort Passport SR-7 ($1,099 including installation) may also be an option. It doesn't do any jamming/shifting, but it does detect and has a front and rear receiver. This in conjunction with Veil ($99) may be a very wise choice for people who have some budget concerns, but not enough to go with a $100 cheap **** detector.

I got the 12 inch cord with the "add-on" for Nissan / Infiniti. Look towards the bottom of the ordering page for that add-on, it's $0.25 I think.

I was looking into the K40 a while back, decided against it at that time because of $$$ concerns.

One thing I was confused about was whether it was an actual jammer or something else. K40's description indicates that it simply sends a return laser signal back to the laser gun, decreasing its effectiveness in reading your speed, and allowing you to slow down in time (hence the name "diffuser"). So that's not jamming at all, right? Jamming would mean that the gun can't get a lock on your speed at all.

There's a youtube video supposedly showing that the K40 doesn't work, but I don't think they tested it correctly. The gun will still get a read on you, but because it's delayed and you have advance notice of the hit, you can slow down and save yourself...that's my understanding of the whole thing.

I'm not sure about the K40 specifically, but in general radar jammers/shifters only work at certain ranges. The gun is able to 'punch through' at extreme far and close ranges. This is why you should use Veil in conjunction with a jammer or at least in conjunction with radar/lidar detector. The Veil will give you a few seconds to slow down even after you've been tagged by lidar. How does one find out where lidar is used? Is it an issue in Northern California? I kind of like the way that the Veil looks painted onto the lenses anyways. Almost like a blackout overlay effect.

Laser is generally used by State Troopers, and it's usually on interstates; city cops never have the budget to equip themselves with it (at least that I know). I live in PA and commute to NJ daily, and I'm constantly getting laser readings.

well that is 100% wrong at least here in Florida. Troopers do not use laser at all for a couple reason's. One laser has to be stationary and not moving at all also it must be hand heald and outside the vehicle. That is just not safe for a trooper to sit on a highway with cars going 70+ to be standing with a laser gun. There for no troopers in Florida use them at all. Only local city departments and traffic sheriffs use them. Again that is only here in Florida..

I should've clarified - from what I've seen, it's only used by troopers, and that's only around the tri-state area and some parts of texas / GA from what I've seen. But that's interesting about how it's done in FL.

Also, for clarification, troopers over here park sideways on the median and roll down their windows to point the gun + you won't believe how many times I've seen a trooper stand outside his car on the median and aim at people like he's got a sniper rifle. We have wide medians on the main interstates in Jersey and PA, so you can find them doing that all the time. The guy that got me was parked diagonally off the on-ramp and pointing right out his window.

They use 5 different lidar guns in Florida, they are the Laser Atlanta, Pro Laser III, LTI Ultralyte, Pro-Lite, and Stalker LZ1.

No problems with my Escort 8500 and IR for the ICC. I have X band off though... Is this the band that is getting picked up?

I've been talking back and forth with Invisicord and finally decided to try it myself. I have to say I really don't know where the problems everyone is having is coming from. The connectors slipped right in if you push the harness wires aside a little bit. I got them all the way in and they aren't going anywhere. Fired right up...literally a 3 minute install. Cary responds to e-mails very quickly also...excellent service from everything I've seen. If anyone is on the fence about the Invisicord, I'd say go for it.
