Radar Detectors

The V1 is dated, so is the solo2. When plugged in the solo2 provided very close performace to the 8500 x2. For wireless applications it is the best that you can get. Dont take my word for it here is the review links so you can see for yourself. Its all about how much you want to spend. the best detectors out there right now are the 9500ix and latest STI. I am actually going to pick up a 9500ix this week, but its 500.00

This is why battery operated detectors are weak:

These guys over at radardetector.net tested the Escort Solo S2 and whether or not it was plugged in, it had almost no effect on range.

OK here it is!
Please remember, this was more of an experiment than an actual test. For a few of the detectors, we did a second run, and the results seemed to be consistent with the first run.
Radar used:
Kustom Golden Eagle, 35.5 GHz.
Results in number of feet from source at which the detector alerted.

Nothing beats a radar detector with GPS.. there's a whole range of traps the Escort 9500 series can protect against the V1 doesn't even know is there. Second false alerts are gone after being marked... no need to desensitize, tune or disable your detector.. just mark the falses on your regularly traveled route and NEVER be bothered by them again. GPS and radar detection go so well together I can't understand why Valentine hasn't included it yet... lord knows they're loosing a ton of sales... I would have bought one myself if it had it.

While the GPS is useful, the main reason to upgrade would be the increased detection range. Going from my 8500 to the V1, and shortly thereafter the 9500, made a world of difference.

I'll be heading down there again, nice to know my RD is prepped.

Yeah, anyone who nay-says the GPS-enabled radar detector has never used one. My wife decided she wants to sell her 8500 and get a 9500xi after riding in my car ONCE after I upgraded.
(i didnt upgrade voluntarily -- only after some jerks busted my window and stole my 8500)
Oh, and you forgot to mention how you don't have to deal with muting and re-muting a false alarm that is weak enough to re-trigger while you are stopped at a light or crawling through a parking lot -- thanks to speed-sensitive auto-sensitivity adjustment. All you get is two short beeps telling you there's a signal but you are going so slow you probably don't care.

Just wanted to let you speeder know that the best radar detector in the world isn't going to help you if the officer knows what he is doing. I use radar and laser and catch speeders with radar detectors all the time. Have also caught a few with jammers. The last one (in a G35) WAS GOING 95 MPH IN A 65 ZONE. So beware if you come to Houston.
I am very happy with my 9500ci in conjunction with Veil.
Just have to keep on eye out for you sneaky pacers!
I never use my system to to break the law but, More as a tool to keep me out of trouble.

^^ +1
The fact is that the flow of traffic is typically 10-15mph over the limit. So, EVERYONE is a speeder. You law enforcement guys are randomly picking victims from a rich pool. In fact, folks who drive the speed limit on our highways are the dangerous ones as the other 95% are having to work their way around them instead of just cruising in their lane. Additionally, police officers running speed traps under an overpass or other "clever" hiding spot cause dangerous driving conditions as drivers for a 1/4 of a mile ahead of that "hiding" spot have to deal with people in front of them stabbing their brakes instead of just maintaining an orderly cruising speed.
All we are doing with radar detectors is lessening our chances of being the "chosen one" when you guys single people out for random enforcement.

i understand the gps helps, but if i drive somewhere often then i already have the speed traps memorized. if im going somewhere new, then obviously it wont help. i still believe nothing is better than actually "thinking" while you drive.

Thinking can't detect speed camers or redlights, although you could always get a Cheetah GPS mirror and add that capability to the 8500 series or V1. http://www.cheetahusa.com/scshop/Sec24.htm. It uses the trinity database of redlight, speedcams and known speedtraps and is currently offering map updates for life.

Radar mount
I bought this mount and it is pricey but it works perfectly!!
http://www.countryjoycrafts.com/350Z/valentinemount.htm
I also paid for the wire from the vendor listed on this thread, only think i did was take a pliers and flatten out the prongs more so they could fit into the slots.
I just swapped out my coupe for a sedan, so hoping the neck of the mirror is the same size.
**Only note is that depending on what radar detector you buy its hard to get it off the mount. Don't like leaving things in my car at the airport visible for theft. I bought the escort passport. The button lies right under the mirror itself to detach it from the mount.

didn't want to start a new thread so I will just borrow this one.
Bought the 9500ix. LOVE it. One complaint I have is the damn suction cup mount is weak and it causes the radar to droop and angle up a bit. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? Seems like since I installed the stealthcord this has happened, but I didn't notice it when mounted at the bottom middle with the regular cigarette plug.
I have the radar mounted against the divers side of the rear view mirror (suction cups in tint, radar just below)
also does the rear view mirror really put out enough power to be equivalent to plugging into the cigarette lighter? Can't see how it could put out enough power to keep the range the same... or does it not matter how much "power" just as long as it's plugged in?
thanks

have both
I have both the valentine and the Escort. In the Escort I have the cordless model and the 9500ix...The GPS functions are very nice. Also the 9500 has like 10 times less false alerts then the valentine...I gave the Valentine to my wife, keep the Escort cordless in my Cayman and use the 9500ix in my G37.
I would get the 9500ix if you are looking.
