My G37 AT exhibited all the classic symptoms. The sound was really only noticeable to me at hot idle and sounded like either valve clatter/tapping or maybe even a bad fan belt. I figured I'd better bring it in because I didn't want to risk potential engine damage. I had no idea it was a known issue. Anyway, yesterday at the 7.5k service they performed the full 028A along with the ester oil fill.

So far, the sound is completely gone and the car feels faster...but I may be imagining that.

Question - when I periodically top off the oil (between changes) do I have to use ester oil, or can I just use normal (non-synthetic) 5w-30 or 10w-30???
If it's ester what kind?

This is my second G and the car's been flawless for six months.

^^^^your topping off the oil regularly? That means your having oil consumption!!!! It seems to be one thing after another with this engine.

Ha...no not really. I don't think it used more than 1/2 quart in the first 7500 miles. That's less than my 2005 G35 ever consumed. The relocated dipstick in the new engine is a welcome improvement also.

Mine had this knocking noise slightly and had them run diagnostics, they said the noise was just out of spec enough to be able to do the warrantied software upgrade and included free ester oil change. In fact, it worked out because it was an appointment I initially set to do my 7500 oil change. Does anyone know if there are any synthetics out there with similar amounts of ester-based additives? I would love to still be able to go synthetic one day! They said they can only guarantee the knocking noise to stay away if I use Nissan ester oil. Though this change was free - subsequent changes will be $65ish.

This TSB makes the 5th slight issue I've had fixed on my G. But I'm not too upset because they have been very prompt and cooperativa with performing warranty work!

1. Rear Axle click/chirp (lubed splines on rear axle)
2. Window regulator on driver's side was faulty (replaced window regulator and paid for re-tinting)
3. Muffler buzz/rattle (replaced stock muffler)
4. Faulty insulation on Stock YPipe, was making ticking noise from heat. (replaced YPipe)
5. Slight VVEL knock driver's side (upgraded VVEL software and performed Ester Oil Change.

Note:
When driving up or down steep grades on an angle and even when cornering - the alleged "body flex" makes my moonroof make a popping noise. I hear this about 1-2x a day and almost each time I pull out of my driveway. I hope this doesnt cause issues and I hope they can make a fix for it.

I got my VVEL issue fixed prior to the whole ester oil deal and have not had a noise since... I'm running Eneos 5-30 Fully Synthetic and it runs like a dream... No noises or issues...

Interesting! I may just do another cycle of Nissan Ester and then go to synthetic around 15k. Thanks.

Well, I had mine fixed before the Ester Oil ammendment (Anyway, my only local Infiniti delaer insists that they don't have any new bulletin, so they are not doing the Ester one), and it fixed my issue for some time, then I began to hear it again, I haven't heard it anymore since I changed to Royal Purple 5W-30 Full Synth.
