I went to santo domingo and did some horseback riding. Wear thick pants if you don't want to have a bruised asss. You can also do a lot of water sports. have fun!

Depending on where you go.

Here is my list:

Santo Domingo-El Malecon
Santo Domingo-La Duarte(Shopping Strip)
Santo Domingo-El Puerto
Right outside of Santo Domingo you have Bocachica(Beach)
Puerto Plata I heard is a big tourist attraction even thought i never been there
Casa de Campo en La Romana has its own Golf Course and Beach

There are alot more places if you just search around some sites. I haven't been there in over 12yrs and when I do is mostly visiting family.

Hope you enjoy your trip

I've been to the DR four times. The first time I went to the DR, I stayed in the Puerto Plata area. The brown sand beaches there were nice, but the surf was extremely rough everyday........which I didn't like because I like to snorkel. The next time I went to the DR, I stayed in Punta Cana. This area is beautiful and the white sand Bavaro Beach that spans the entire Punta Cana coast is definitely one of the best beaches I have ever been to. After going to Punta Cana once, I went back there two more times......that is how much I loved it there.

It all comes down to personal preference, but I like Punta Cana MUCH more than the Puerto Plata/Sosua area.

I've been to Punta Cana as well, stayed at the Breezes resort. I had a fantastic time. If you scuba dive, then definately stay in Punta Cana, there is a national marine reserve directly off the beach with the best diving I've experienced. Highly highly recommended!

I've been hearing alot about the lovely white sands of Punta Cana. I have never been snorkeling before, but i would definately love to try it out. After doing some research Im starting to lean more and more towards Punta Cana. Now Im just left to choose the resort.

Thanks for all your suggestions and inputs
Nigel

I've stayed at the Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort once. Pictures here . It's a huge resort with it's own private golf course and casino. Golfing is included as well, but you have to pay for a power cart. I'd recommend this resort.

I have also stayed at the Iberostar Bavaro twice and this resort is top notch. The food was incredible and the rooms were extremely nice. Overall, I liked this resort a little more than the Barcelo resort. You can take a virtual visit and look at pictures here.

I did not care much for sousa when I went there a few years back..Boca chica was ok. Punta cana and bavaro are very nice...We stayed with freinds while in puerta plata and it was enjoyable but not cheap...You must stop in the city of san pedro de macoris, which is not far from santo domingo, to see where the majority of all the major league baseball players come from....if you really want to be cool, bring some old baseball gloves and balls and the kids will be eternally grateful.....

okay, well in that case..i suggest u hit up Mangu. its a club in punta cana. i mean, whatever resort u go to will have its own disco/club venue..but Mangu is the spot where all tourists from the different resorts party. so u will def have a good chance of meeting a lady friend they play a range of music from reggae/hiphop/a lil r&b/house along with the local faves (salsa/reggaeton/etc).
