i totally agree.. you can't buy your golf game but you can benefit from having the right equipment.

I've been building golf clubs on the side for years and trust me, yes its 80 % indian 20% arrow but if the indian can always improve with the right bow

Aliiin: If you decide you want this as a hobby, start with forgiving clubs, a bunch of them on ebay.Get cavity back offset irons. Wedges are important, you'll find yourself using them more than any clubs in your bag

When you start shooting in the 90's then its time to start looking into getting fitted :shafts that fits you, correct size grip and loft and lie angles of your irons. Getting fitted correctly will improve your score a few strokes.

hope that helps

I do best on courses with a lot of dog leg rights. Help out with the awesome slice I usually get on the course.

Just for that, I'm going to build a golf course for you that goes in a counter-clockwise spiral with all dog leg lefts that are positioned into the Santa Ana winds blowing to the right.

For the OP, you should just go to a golf store and try out all sorts of irons (especially a store that has an outdoor driving range). I have Callaway X-18's pros. If you're a beginner, maybe you should try their Big Bertha irons. You know the Callaway pre-owned website is having a sale, plus you can get an additional 20% off if you sign up for Bing cash back. EXTREMELY cheap right now...plus their used equipment is normally in great condition.

Well... for cheap golf clubs, there is a set of Alien clubs that has really good irons, for the price. I have the set. But I would warn you against the driver and woods, they aren't that good. So... I got a decent priced set of irons, plus a $350 driver, which works amazingly Its a MacGregor driver.

Oh, and I'm pretty new to golf as well, I like the sport, but don't play too often.

good luck

I agree with everyone. Start off cheap and as your game and confidence increase, then invest more. Practice is the key.

I am leaving to go play 36. 8 hours of cigar smoking, alcohol drinking outdoor activity. None better. In this game Frankie is wrong, Relax DO do it.

Wow, this thread is kinda funny. Coming from someone who lives on 2 golf courses and played in highschool on the #1 team in the nation at the time (until i broke my wrist ending competitive play for me). Yeah, you don't want to break the bank on your first set, but you dont want to be TOO cheap either. It's funny, when you guys are talking about your car the last thing anyone wants to do is buy something cheap, the same thing kind of applies here. A couple people had some good advice about going to a golf store and trying stuff out. Just don't go to one of those big super sized golf stores like golf galaxy or something. Most of the time the guys working there don't know half of what they're talking about. Since you already picked up a set it doesnt matter much now, but if you decide you like the sport and want to improve, you will need to improve your sticks. A set of clubs fitted to your body shape and swing will make a huge difference in your game, maybe not in your overall score but it will help in the long run with consistency. Getting some lessons by a local club pro is probably the best thing you can do to get started. IF you start learning to a swing the right way you wont have to go back and re-learn to get rid of any bad habbits you would pick up if you started on your own. But the main thing is to just have fun and be patient and dont get frustrated when you get the "shanks".

Oh, and do us all a favor and dress somewhat decent. You dont want to be the guy out there in cutoff jean shorts a wife beater and golf sandals with cleats. Just get a couple decent polo's and some khaki shorts (preferably not cargo shorts) and some proper golf shoes. Nike and adidas make some good cheap beginner pairs. Also, if you look like you are trying to take it seriously the person giving leasons will think so too, and usually be alot more helpful.
