The OFFICIAL college football thread

Well with only about 6 weeks or so until the kickoff of the NCAA football season, it's time to start football trash talking.

Tell us about your team and what they will accomplish during the 2009 football season. Which rivals will you smash? How well will they do?

Go!

Well I think you all probably know where my allegiance lies.

I think the Tigers should have a good 09 season now that we've got a good young QB with some ability and a little bit of experience and confidence. There is a stud freshman from Houston on campus behind him to push him even more. Solid on both sides of the ball. Favorable conference schedule. Too good to be true?

The only road games that should be a challenge is the trip to Georgia on 10/3 and maybe to 'Bama on 11/7, but we usually beat Bama at their stadium. If Les Miles is true to form, he'll lose some easier games he's supposed to win and then over achieve in the big game against Florida.

10-2 and win the SEC West.

Forgot you are a Tiger fan too. Maybe I'll see you on some Saturdays this fall.

Yes, I drive from Houston for a lot of home games (I used to make every game for years).

Go Big Red! Husker Power!

If Nebraska continues to improve, we're looking at a 9-3 regular season (with a little luck) and 10-2 is a possibility (with lots of luck). The Big 12 North should be there for the taking (not necessarily a good thing, because we'll lose the Big 12 title game). Then a bowl game and a win in that dependings on the matchup. If the Huskers win the North then they will most likely lose the Big 12 Championship and drop in the ranks hard enough to lose a first or second tier bowl game. Sometimes it's better to not play in the conference championship because you can get a better bowl by just not playing (and losing). But if your division doesn't have a conference championship then you're just a bunch of pussies. That's right, I'm taking about the Big 10, and Pac 10. Man up sissies!

Give us a couple more years for the Pelini recruits to start filling the holes (especially on defense) and then we'll be talking.

Agreed. Winning a conference championship game against a highly ranked opponent was a huge factor for LSU's '07 championship after dropping in the polls like a rock after losing their last regular season game. If not for the SEC championship game against a #14 Tennessee team (and several very fortunate losses by some other top teams) they wouldn't have had the chance to embarrass Ohio State for the NC. On the other hand, you can go into the your conference Championship game undefeated and lose that one game and possibly be knocked into a second tier bowl.

For the sake of the BCS, all conferences should have it or none of them should. No conference that has it is going to give it up because it rakes in tons of cash. So lesser conferences (I mean YOU Wack- 10, No So Big 10, and "that basketball conference") grow a pair and start playing a conference championship.

Pelini is a very good coach. Hated to lose him as a D-coordinator in Baton Rouge but I think he's got a great future for a long time as a head coach.
