Your sources say graphite is better for near-pro golfers? Why is it that all pro golfers use steel shafts?

Steel gives you more control and makes it easier to shape your shot (something beginners cant do anyway)

Graphite is lighter, allows you to create more clubhead speed and thus hit the ball farther.

Steel shafts also give a lot more feedback on off center shots (i.e. you feel the sting in your hands). Thats another reason they arent good for beginners who have not yet developed a consistant swing or consistant ball striking.

But of course, its ultimately the decision of each individual golfer. Test out both, see what you prefer.
Hell if I know, me=very average golfer, 5 times a year.
I was told this from pro and staff at Roger Dunn, but they did give me the opportunity to hit any of the clubs on their range. That would be your best way to find what you like.

oic. well, if you go back there i suggest you test out everything and not let what they tell you sway your purchasing decisions It doesnt sound like they know what they are talkin bout.

Ok guys, I ordered a set of each of the following sets:

http://www.****ssportinggoods.com/pr...ductId=3002546

and

http://www.****ssportinggoods.com/pr...ductId=3002551

The first URL is what I wanted but it has a stupid shipping date of the end of July. I wanted these before July 3rd because I have some friends coming into town so I could use them then instead of getting them close to August. The second URL I order too but had to pay for shipping so it can be here by the 3rd. The second option is going to cost close to $300 which sucks. I know the D-icks sporting goods place didn't have any of the first option at any of the stores but I didn't check the second option. Does anyone know where I can possible get these sooner and maybe for less money?

Why not start out hitting some balls with a friend who can give you some tips? I wouldn't waste my time/money with a Pro until you at least have a decent swing.

I guess I got the second set ($250) since I got the email that it has been shipped. How much is like a beginning lesson? Does anyone have an idea?

depends on where you go really.

I still occasionally have private sessions with the instructor i started with 6 years ago. Hes in the top 100 youth golf instructors in the US.. charges about $70 for a 30 minute private session.

An average certified pro will charge around $50 per hour.

OK guys, I did a search on google and found this and other videos. Is this a good starter tip on how to hold the club and get a straight shot?

http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-...ect-golf-swing

Keep laughter to a minimum please. I really don't know how to hold a golf club correctly so I thought this would be a good start and then practice. I seem to be able to kit irons rather straight as long as I don't swing like I would when swing a baseball bat meaning swinging really hard to get the ball to go farther. Drivers I always slice. I don't hold my golf club like this so I was wondering if this could be the reason for the slice.

I think you'd be better off getting 2 privates with a range pro. just let him get you in the basics, a video isn't going to correct you when you swing wrong.

In the beginning, concentrate on one thing at a time instead of looking at the whole swing and trying to imitate that. Get your grip right. I would say that is one of the most important fundementals to establish right away.

the grip on that video looks good. there are couple different ways to properly grip depending on your preference and size of your hands. i prefer the interlocking grip where the little finger on each hand interlock with each other.

Thanks Callaway. I think they showed that on there along with two other ones. I guess I will just need to wait until I get my clubs and go practice.
