kinda bummed, but still resolute and posting a pointless thread
So I was on 6mt.net yesterday just browsing and I ran across the inevitable G35 vs G37 - and by a large margin they didn't like the look of the the G37. Now I know this has probably been gone over a billion times and I know I shouldn't be surprised, they are G35 owners after all, however, I can't say I disagree with every argument they make. In some ways I wish our car looked a little bit more like the old G35, however, I still think our car is nice looking. The question is will it stand the test of time? As an architect, form and function are always on my mind, as the lead designer at our firm for the last 12 years I think I have a fair grasp on aesthetics, but I'm not 100% sure our cars design will be relevant as long as the G35 will. It's not that the G37 is ugly, far from it, but I think the nose is a little weak in relation to the G35's, and in some ways the simple form of the G35 is very pure. Our car has its perks too - the technology and interior for instance, but let's be honest, its not the interior that grabs us as car guys (and girls) its the sheet metal. What ultimately bugs me is even though I love my car and I tell myself that I don't care what other people think (btw I don't believe anybody that buys a car like ours really believe this - it's just what we tell ourselves) there is that nagging thought in the back of my head that maybe I do have an ugly car, I mean if that many people say so it must be true right? I'm trying to be as unbiased about the car's looks as possible - it is just a car after all.
I guess the moral of the story is don't look at other car websites!

let's be honest here... a G37 at stock height looks really ugly...
but after u drop it? that's a 180 degree transformation. That's the first step to enlightenment.

Jealousy seems to be what you’re pointing out. I personally like how our cars look over the old G35 and so do a lot of others that I have talked to. I have yet to find one that thinks the G35 looks better (and no they are not just saying it). As you stated, they drive G35, maybe they are the ones trying to convince themselves their cars look better. Either way, I bought it because I like it. I don’t give a cr@p what other say(even though they don't say anything bad), I really don't.
But they do get turned away when I tell them about the 7AT issues.... (friend bought a BMW and other a Lexus)

Why on earth would it bother you what other people thought of your car?

Haha, 6mt.net is full of trolls and haters. Got something they don't? Don't expect a warm reception.
Can they knock the G37 for anything except the fact that it doesn't look like a G35? Probably not...

I kinda agree with them. As a prior G35 owner, I must say stock for stock the G35 does look much better. Of course no one denies the G37 wins interior wise.
I do think the G37 can look better, but it takes some modification. The G35 does look great stock, it just has nice lines. The G37 is very bubbly and the ugly stock chrome spoiler does not help its case.

I do agree that stock for stock, a G35 coupe looks a little more aesthetically pleasing than a G37 coupe. However, a stock G37 Sedan (Or 07 G35 Sedan) looks worlds better than a stock G35 Sedan. No comparison, IMO.

Dude. I'm a designer, and when I first saw the G37 my jaw dropped and I was in love. I too liked the G35 when it first came out and to me that style is already outdated by a large margin, especially on the sedan. I will bet you $$ that 9/10 girls like the G37 look better than the G35 :P
G37 Soooooooo much better looking than the G35! |

I've always preferred the look of the G37 over the G35. I was actually planning on a G35 until I saw the preview photos of the 37 and was completely sold. The outside looked sportier / slicker to me, and the interior was not even a contest.
I don't really understand all this G35 vs G37 stuff in the first place though because it's not like they are THAT incredibly different on the outside and the 37 is better in every other way. |

Wow.. seems like it's all a matter of opinion. The only thing I liked about a G35 was it's exhaust note

I'm not saying the G37 is not good looking. Hey look, its all subjective for the most part. In fact, when I first saw the coupe on a lot I thought "wow that's sexy car", and I still think that for the most part. I even staged a mental coup on my wife to convince her of my biological need for the car. But after a week of ownership I started to notice some small detail issues that arn't quite as tidy as the g35's. For instance, I think the tail lights are a little off the way they project out. The front wheel gap seems more noticable than the 35's, the front end is a little soft and not less descriptive of the cars attitude. And for some reason I think the G37 looks longer and bigger than the G37, when in fact it isn't.
Very few cars can be described as perfect, so I'm ok if my car isn't. Quote:
