What's everyones opinion on the GT-R, good or bad?

I personally love that car, I went on a canyon run with a group of friends today and the GT-R led the pack of M3's M5's M6's S4's C63's and E63's. The GT-R has a really aggressive tone on it, i love it

i feel like its our car on steroids (2 turbos)

only bad thing ive heard about the gt-r is that some transmission issues came up, its a complicated dual clutch though, and apparently, nissan isnt covering the transmission for warranty

not to be a as5 but I think there is already another thread for this car. It came up a couple of time in the other cars section. Other than that I think this car is really aggressive.

There is no transmission issue, Fact is if you decide to drive like an a$8hole or constantly LAUNCH the car at each red light, you will mess your tranny up and it's going to be all up on you, Yes u can still launch the car (with the new launch control feature) but do not take the VDC off as it will be recorded on its blackbox.

GT-R's are constantly being drag raced or tracked with no transmission issues, It's all behind the owner's control of the car.

Note: I felt like a little child sitting in the GT-R, It's really big compared to our 37's interior.

This issue has been beat to death. There is NO transmission issue. It was corrected.

I have a bunch of pictures of my G next to a friends GT-R, it is sooo much bigger. Makes my car look like a Smart Car

Here's my observations between my GT-R and G37.

The GT-R is not bigger than a G37, it appears to be when you see the car in person but putting the cars side by side it really is not. The GT-R is only physically different than the G37 in ways that a true sports car should be, height and width. It is about an inch lower than a G37 and it's about 3 inches wider. But overall length is identical between the two cars. As far as supercars go, the GT-R is very big, almost looking out of place compared to Porsche's, Ferrari's etc. But compared to a G37 the contrast is very small.

I found the interior in the G37 to feel larger and roomier than the GT-R. My first impression sitting in the GT-R was that for such a large car on the outside it sure feels like a cramped cockpit on the inside. Everything is driver centric in the GT-R, and it's meant to wrap you in for track driving so it's very snug. There is no sunroof either so it makes the interior seem even smaller, this does however give you more headroom than a 37, undoubtedly for wearing a helmet at the track. I'm 6'1" and sitting comfortably in my G37 I could definitely still fit someone in the back, in the GT-R sitting the same way the back of the front seat touches the rear seat cushion. The G37 can be considered a 4 seater but the GT-R's rear seat is really just for show.

The interior of the 37 also exudes alot more luxury than the GT-R. This is probably a given since the GT-R is more a raw sports car than the 37. The quality of materials is solid, but the design and feel is a lot more luxurious in the 37. This is one of the things I miss the most about the 37. You also get a lot more toys in the 37 than the GT-R, two biggest things I miss are the standard iPod connectivity and the rear-view camera. The navigation controls are also much better in the 37. You can do everything with the turn dial, in the GT-R you can do half the things with the little baby dial but the rest requires you to use the touch screen. I hate getting fingerprints on the screen so I find I don't use navigation very much like I did in my G37.

Sure you get the function screens in the GT-R but really I find a rear view camera and iPod more useful in day to day driving than knowing my cornering G's or brake pedal depression.

Last couple of things that annoy me about the GT-R is the long nose in relation to the ride height. It is very very hard to avoid scraping the front lip and it makes taking the car places a little stressful. Other thing is the attention, I liked the 37 because you could park it almost anywhere and it was low key enough not to attract too many people. The GT-R gets people racing up/cutting you off to see it, stopping you in parking lots, touching it and getting their greasy paws all over it. Just annoying in general and you build up paranoia leaving it anywhere.

The car is fantastic in every other way though, really is a supercar that can be driven anytime. I'm not going to go into performance as the cars are in completely different classes, but the GT-R is a beast.

I've also had both cars parked together and it's much wider but not larger in any other way, what might "look" bigger can be a trick of the eye when you physically measure the cars. Like I said it is quite a bit wider, but the term "bigger" implies a size differences in all dimensions which is not true.

G37
Wheelbase - 112.2
Length - 183.1
Width - 71.8
Height - 54.8/.9

GT-R
Wheelbase - 109.4
Length - 183.1
Width - 74.9
Height - 54

The added width gives a bit more front hip/shoulder room inside, so it may appear larger when sitting in the car, but that's negated when you see the rear interior dimensions are MUCH smaller than the G37's.

I'm curious as to what you've seen though, if you could post up those pictures of your car next to your buddies we can take a look. Something from the direct front/back and side would be useful.

Thanks Retromoe, great pics!

It really shows that extra width, especially from the back, you can also see the shorter height of the GT-R especially in the first picture. The second picture makes it seem like the GT-R has a more substantial front end, but that's only because the front bumper draws closer to the ground. If you added a front bumper or lip that went to the ground on the 37 it would look substantial too. All in all though the two cars are very similar in size and dimensions. The GT-R does not dwarf the G37 and certainly doesn't make the G37 look like a Smart car, you would probably need a Sequoia or a Navigator to do that.

I have no idea what you mean by that. But being wider and same length does still mean it is bigger. Do you want me to break out the 4th grade math?
