G37S vs 370z

Ok, I'm on business travel and get a 370z for a rental car. It's yellow with black interior and the only option might be the six speed automatic with paddle shifters rather than the six speed manual. I'm at about 170 miles so far and find the car very easily adaptable to because of the similarities from our G37S. This car is more business like. Our G37S (auto) is my wifes car and only drive it occasionally. The 370z is very business like and really suits me fine. I would have one next to our G37S if the z had the manual transmission with sport package (large brakes). That is all I'd add.

One note is that the transmission in manual shift seems to hit harder than the G37S - could be the extra gear that keeps the RPMs up. I notice that at 70mph the G37S is turning well over 3k RPM while the 370z is around 2400rpm's if in sixth gear. Noise level is up from the G37S. Other than that, I'll have to get home and drive the G37S to get more details for more comparison.

You should see the numbers the 370 is putting up compared to ours :wow:

Well, the 370 is a Nissan, so its cheaper, and it probably doesn't have all the bells and whistles that the Infiniti has. It may be faster, but it is also smaller and only seats 2(I think).

What exactly do you mean by more business like? That's a surprising observation to me unless you mean it in a way I'm just not understanding.

Business like in good way as I would prefer my car with only the essentials. This model didn't have the nav/stereo nor the LCD screen and therefore a step in the right direction - it was a base model. The support tube behind the seats is definitely more function than form. The z has no rear seat for passengers which moves it towards the business-like description I give it.

I would like to see it with a mechanical limited slip diff rather than some electic control.

Another observation is that the G37S has a better sounding growl to the exhaust than the z.

Well... in Beverly Hills there are rental places with Mercedes, Ferrari, Bentley, Lamborghini etc etc...
so I'm sure there could easily be a rental place that rents on Nissans.. even the 370Zs.

And I would think the G37 Sedan would be more "business" like, usually small 2 seater sport cars are not bussiness cars...

Ummmmm, I've gotta disagree. I can be cruising at 75-80 on the interstate and still be at 2500 RPM. Granted I've got the 7AT, so maybe that extra overdrive gear helps in my situation.

Gotcha. I thought you meant the exact opposite. By business like you are meaning no frills sports car; I thought you meant a car for a business person. I understand now.

When I hear "business like", I think of a luxury sedan.... not a 2 seater sports car.

Automatic has a different ratio, and it's normal to see lower rpms at the same highway crusing speed in the automatic.

When the lock-up clutch kicks in, it also drops the RPM slightly in the automatic.

Oh lol I also thought how a 370z felt like it's for more business purpose.
