For $3.5k dif which one will you buy 08 335i or 09 G37x base??
Greetings,
Please help, I am facing a dilemma. The new 09 G37x base with mud guard, cargo and all weather floor mat cost $32.5k (tax not included) while the new 08 335i cost $36k (tax not included). The 335i window sticker MSRP is 46k. It has a premium package with sunroof which I don't care much. If it is the last car that you buy which one will you pick in term of performance, riding comfort, handling in snow, reliability and maintenance cost? The 335i has a free maintenance for the first 4 years / 50k which ever come first. I live in the area with about 20 days of snow a year. I will have an extended warranty of 7 years / 100k which ever come first on both car. My annual mileage is about 10k for now. My heart says the 335i but my pocket says G37x. Any help to make my decision easier would be greatly appreciated. |

i'm thinking 335i, honestly. for $36k its a fantastic deal, you can't go wrong. The reason i picked the G37 over the 335i was for value. Are you very performance oriented, do you like a fast car? Are you into modifications?
The 335i with the Twin turbo's will be my pick.. but ultimately the choice is yours.

Well first, have you test driven both cars? I mean, don't base your decision to buy or pass on a car based on costs and brand name. Drive both cars and see how you feel in both of them. Can you see yourself loving that car from the 1st day to the 1,000th day of ownership? Do you like the in-cabin setup? Does the car drive the way you want to drive? You need to answer all of these questions first before you decide.
From there, I'd say Infiniti all of the way. Yes, the 335i might be a tad faster, but if that's not a huge problem to you, then go G37. Much better value per dollar spent. Maintenance costs are much lower. An oil change on a 335 can run upwards of $200. Plus Infiniti has proven itself to be a much more reliable brand. Don't get me wrong, I considered the 335i coupe, but in the end I fell in love with the G37 coupe and I love it still to this day. Good luck on your search!

Thats a tough choice man. I was in the same dilemma, trying to decide between both of those cars a year ago. But as u can see i decided on the G. For some reason my friends and peolple I spoke tkept saying that BMW's are for gay guys. Thats not the reason I didnt get the BMW. Reason was $$$$$$$$$. Screw it just get both of them. LOL.

Anyway, in answer to your question: If "fast car" mean performance then yes I like fast car. No, I am not into modifications. If it is easy like using the Cobb access port then I will. |

335xi? or 335i? Is the AWD important to you? or are you willing to change to winter tires/rims in the winter?
Is a brand new car important to you -- do you trust a pre-driven '08 vehicle? I'd lean towards getting the G, also -- are u planning on keeping this vehicle > 4 years. There's a great thread on G35driver.com, and someone offered: G37 is a great car to buy and keep a long time 335i is a great car to least and keep short term

The 335i offers more torque and costs less dollars per HP so thats a plus.
The G37 in my opinion has a better looking interior. The exterior of either is up in the air.. i like them both. When i considered both before buying, the price of the G37s was 42k and the 335i was 51k. Have you driven them both yet?

For the price you're claiming they will sell you the 335 for, the *smarter* thing to do would be get the 335 over the G. I love my G to death, but the 335 is probably a little nicer, ESP if you want to mod it. You just can't compare NA mods to FI mods. Any kind of forced induction vehicle can EASILY drop 2 or more seconds off of the quarter mile time stock. Hell, I dropped 3.5 seconds off of my 240sx's quarter mile time.
Now, that being said, Me personally, I CAN NOT buy the lesser model of a car line, or the "grass is greener" mentality always gets me. I would have to buy the M3 if I was getting a bmw 3 series and did not plan on doing much mods. If you're going to mod, the 335 is for you.

Thank you all for your comments and help.

I didn't drive the 335i but I test drive the G37x in comparison to my current LGT. They both handle well in C curve (LGT is a bit better with less body roll) but I feel like my LGT stock has a quicker acceleration in passing power. May be it is due to the G37x engine roar giving me the fault impression that it make a tremendous effort to accelerate. Quote:
Just kidding. As long as I am not doing anything unethical, illegal... and I can sleep sound at night, I don't care about being opinioned for something or someone that I am not. Anyway, I think I have to follow my pocket instead of my heart. |

That said, I agree with you. I've been drooling about the 335i since it has been in the market and never have the cash nor the courage to spend $45k car. As I mention earlier, I want a long term, reliable car with a reasonable maintenance cost therefore the 335i has to go. |

The real cost difference is more when you count:
1. Resale value, even if we assume both have the same relative resale value, the 335i is 1 yr older, which will count when you try to sell it 2. If you insist on an ext warranty, the 335i's will cost more. Also, AWD is a + in areas that snow. |

i hate having the "base" model of anything also...
btw .. have you been to any of the bimmer forums that discuss 335i problems -- it's a totally different feel that on this forum -- seems like there's multiple problems that have some or no resolutions, and some of the recur... i dunno, it's worth investigating.
