For S.E. Texas my vote goes to Papa Johns..... we don't have those fancy smancy yankee pizza places down here... on a side note CPK is not bad either.

As a pizza addict, I seriously ENVY those of you in NYC. I've heard there's nothing like pizza from NY. I've had deep dish in Chicago, but I've heard once you get some AUTHENTIC pizza from NYC, you'll never want anything else again.

I heard the dough is flour mixed with tears from an angel.....or water from the Hudson river

This is a metro Detroit favorite, don't think it's all over the country - but Jet's Pizza here in the Detroit area is great. I know some other states have a few locations. Gotta love their square deep dish. Fair prices and good quality. Check it out.

there are tons of good pizza places around here...too many to name and none that you guys would hear of since they aren't chains. The only chain that I'd have deliver pizza is dominos though, but I prefer a local pizza shop.

I've had NY "pies" lol once and they were pretty good, never had a 'hero' or 'cheese steak' though just steak and cheese subs

If anyone is in NJ I highly suggest you go to Pete and Elda's in Neptune. They have a REAL thin crust pizza that taste SOOO good. I dont really like thin crust but their pizza is excellent. Also expect to wait a long time if you go on a Friday or Saturday night.

Jet'z Pizza, square Detroit-style deep dish. Locations are limited to Michigan, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, and Tennessee though. Sooo maybe some of you from these states have had it before??

http://jetspizza.com/

Check the site out. Yummy Detroit-style deep dish. The original is at Buddy's Pizza in the D, though.

Not true (well, IMHO). Once you've had deep dish at Gino's East in Chicago...With sausage and authentic cornbread crust. It puts NYC's pizza to sleep. So much more ingredients, time and effort go into Chi Town pizza. Of course for pizza "on the go" (get it faster, eat it faster) then I would say NYC style rules. But I like to seat down and make love to pizza slowly. Buddy's in Detroit makes a mean Detroit-square-deep-dish too. The original on Conant St. It was on GQ's top 25 pizzas in the country list.
