Good to see some veg bbq. Here's one I enjoy. For anyone who's eaten at Wolfe's in Denver you know how good it is.

ToFu in the Pit at Wolfe's Barbeque.

Hasty-Bake www.hastybake.com designed this pit for Wolfe's. and their BBQs are the only ones that I have used since 1954...

Lump charcoal is used for heat and hickory chunks for smoke. Heat is indirect.

Denver ToFu, organic, firm, (19 oz blocks), drained, sliced into four pieces, sprinkled with our dry rub spices, placed directly on the racks in the pit, smoked for about 3 hours, turned over, basted with BBQ sauce, and smoked for another hour or two. no freezing, pressing, etc. just seasoned and smoked. cooked weight of the four slices is about 11 - 12 ounces (6 slices usually weigh in at about one pound...)

The dry rub is available $7 per pound plus $10 USPS priority mail (same single $10 shipping charge for up to 2 1/2 pounds). Also included is the (very simple) recipe for using the spices in making the BBQ sauce. http://www.wolfesbarbeque.com/

If you ever make it to Denver you need to try the real deal. His humble restaurant is right near the capitol. When I lived in the mountains during the 90s this place was a must every time I visited the city for supplies, etc. Since then every time I've been back to Denver for a visit, work etc. I make it part of my trip.

I'm a vegetarian as well and bought a smoker this past summer just to try my own take on bbq tofu.
